NYC goes after smokers who bought cigarettes on Internet. It's sickening how cigarettes are a legal commodity and yet we are all made to feel like criminals because we buy it.
And it's the American Way to Shop Cheap. What did the states expect from us when they raised the cigarette taxes through the roof to continually provide the lawmakers and the anti's with more of our money!

During much of the year Calabasas (western San Fernando Valley) has intense smog, the kind that closes your breathing passages and drops visibility to under a mile. You're full of crap. I work there and during most of the year, the wind blows over Hidden Hills from the desert air expansion towards the ocean. Nothing comes from L.A.
Dumping a bagful of ciggie butts on the entrance to the courthouse is suitable here.

I don't know anything about the pollution problems of the area - but I sure do like your suggestion:

but I would change it to the steps of city hall.

There are a bunch of office buildings close to the Parkway Calabasas exit on the Ventura freeway where rich liberals work and try to out-liberal each other. Particularly around Serrano Ave. Those are the people that belly-rub with the town council.
I dealt with them sometimes. I stand my ground. I don't talk like them; I get my point across fast. I don't act like them; I am below no one. I don't dress like them; my hands make exotic avionics things work. I don't smell like them.
One more thing, in that shopping center there where I eat lunch once in a while, women get a dear-in-the-headlights look when a man says something sort of "direct" to her:) Use your insight into the kind of men they work with!

There ARE no pollution problems there. They should outlaw the ragweed wildfires that seem to occur annually in Simi Valley, Grenada Hills and those valleys around there and West Hills sometimes. The wind always blows toward the ocean 10 miles away and leaves white and some black ash around the place.
It's not a big city. But I know the popular entrance to the parking area where the town meets. Small courthouse and a mall of business suites. A bagful of butts right there would make them drive over them. Maybe mix some condoms in with them for good measure? April Fools is on a Saturday.

I'd like to see ragweed outlawed altogether - but that's a personal problem wiht me :)
This is an idiotic proposal. Period. And the people proposing it thinking the state, and then the rest of the country will embrace it have no business holding elected office except maybe in the local whacky ward.

That is the most complicated set of rules I have ever seen.
I'd claim ignorance and say, "No habla Ingles." and I'd probably be given a pass on the entire smoking thing.

I'm no lawyer, but in most jurisdictions
misdemeanors have to be witnessed by a LEO.
I think this will get squashed by the first person with deep enough pockets to fight it in court.
This is also more proof of my longtime contention that most lawmakers at all levels have nothing constructive to do and should be made to stay home for 11 months a year.

I love Jacob Sullum. He's been fighting the smoking Nazis for years. I don't believe he's a smoker.

If you go out to Potrero Rd. and hike up Old Boney Mountain (From the Kanan Rd side or the Satwiwa park side), you get a view from the highest point in the county.
We spent a day up there messing around, and could see the huge L.A. smogbank drift through Calabasas, through Thousand Oaks and eventually out to the ocean... Then it seems to get sucked back in again...
Yeah, it's people smoking ya gotta worry about.... Jeeeez!

This is bad. Very bad.
But what's worse is that there's many Americans (and some FReepers) who like these ideas. Who would love for this crap to go nationwide.
I've never even heard of a place called, "Calabasas."
I believe we'll be hearing that word a lot more in the next few years. It'll be where, they'll say, "It all started."

But. but, but.......I was just chastized that Calabasas has no smog! How can this be?
LOL, I lived in the west end of the filthy valley about 2 miles from there in the 70-80's. Foul smog in the summer. Now I live out in the exact area you mention, off Potrero, and avoid the valley like the plague.

I am from Calabasas and EVERYONE is PISSED off about it. OUr goofy mayor Barry Groveman is out of control and trying to make a run for state assembly by attatching his name to something big. But everyone is upset.
Please come here and smoke. My wildly liberal friend and I finally agree on something, so we started a blog and we're trying to start a grass roots campaign to stop this insanity. thanks check it out!
