"In this town, out of sight is out of mind. People fade very quickly once they're out of power. I think he'll fade." Rep. Ray LaHood (R-Ill.)

Seems like Bubba and The Hildabeaste never go the memo.

I'm just about to turn 69 and I know there are other freepers here who are on no meds either.

Perhaps it's all about being conservative.../grin/

I think the most important long goal for conservatives should be term limits.

So instead of Washington being run by 535 people that can be voted out of office, it will be run by 10,000 who can't be voted out of office.

Nice long term vision there.

Not to mention that it would facilitate privatizing SS.... another conservative bonus...

Exactly.

Hogwash. DeLay was Speaker of the House and quit, for cryin' out loud. How much real "reform" has Newt Gingrich accomplished since he was forced from office?

Rush has always been a "DeLay is totally innocent" cheerleader. But if that were true DeLay would still be in office. What's next for DeLay? A book? That will change America. Right.

I'm a little late getting online today, but here's a bump for you anyway ;O)

A Taxreform bump for you all.

If anyone would like to be added to this ping list let me know.

John Linder in the House(HR25) & Saxby Chambliss Senate(S25) offer a comprehensive bill to kill all income and SS/Medicare payroll taxes outright and replace them with with a national retail sales tax administered by the states.

H.R.25,S.25
A bill to promote freedom, fairness, and economic opportunity by repealing the income tax and other taxes, abolishing the Internal Revenue Service, and enacting a national retail sales tax to be administered primarily by the States.

Refer for additional information:

I think I heard that the Republicans are entitled to appoint someone to serve the balance of Tom's term so there will be only one incumbent Republican on the November ballot. Is that right?

DeLay was never Speaker. He was the majority leader.

I hear that Eckels is the strongest candidate. No special election, but no open field, either. GOP apparatus can appoint its candidate on the ballot.

I am more worried about this independent candidacy from Steve Stockman pulling enough votes to elect Lampson.

Not what I read on NR... there will be no special election and the GOP can annoint its candidate on the November ballot, but no one will represent the district between June and November, ie. the district will not have a congressman during this period.

Well, whaddayaknow. A Republican with cojones.

I hope the first thing he does is to look up my Junior Senator, Tom Coburn. Then I hope the second thing he does is some time with Boortz.

I guarantee you there will be no free-for-all on the November ballot, which would guarantee a Lampson win.

DeLay would not be guaranteeing a GOP victory for this seat if it were an open ballot. All the ducks are in a row to retain this seat.

Thanks for your input on this re the Texas seat. And I still welcome TD's help on the Fair Tax Act. That's very important to Republicans and to the Republic.

No.
Representatives have to be elected. They cannot be appointed, as Senators can.

US Constitution:
"When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies."

I thought that after listening to DeLay take credit for the great work of the Senate, that these clowns are soooo far out of touch with America that it defies decription.

And yes, preventative medicine is absolutely the route our healthcare system needs to follow.

Preventative medicine is a very important facet of health care, but it is still socialistic for the government to provide it.

Better to have a check up that detects diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, etc. before it leads to serious issues and/or hospitalization and amputation.

I agree with you on that 100%. However, can you please point out the section of the Constitution that authorizes the federal government to fund this?
