Dear AnAmericanMother,

I pretty much discount the entire theory on the part of this "scholar." I have a really hard time taking the poor fellow seriously.

I just thought it would be a fun post. ;-)

I find this hard to believe. She could have been acting as a scribe as he corrected the works.

The unaccompanied cello suites are among the most magnificent works ever written for the cello, and in fact for any instrument.

I in fact wrote a play where I use some of them. You can click on "interludes" on my website and hear them at www.thebed.org

"I think its just another attempt by the left to discredit and anything having to do with western civilization."

I'm sure that Afrocentric scholars will claim that Bach was black and was inspired by African music.

Dear Cyclopean Squid,

No, of course not. ;-)

I think the problem is, the guy takes himself so seriously that there's no room for any of the rest of us to take him seriously at all!

. .. I'm with you, we can have fun with this one.

Next up, I'm sure some 'academic' will claim Beethoven had perfect hearing and was just faking deafness as an insurance scam.

I think the dog probably ate it, and she had to copy it over.

Happens all the time at our house . .. and we haven't got anywhere near 20 kids, but we do have 2 pianos, a harpsichord, 9 guitars, 2 clarinets, 2 violins, sheet music everywhere, and a very hungry Labrador Retriever!

Yes, I've been waiting for the world to discover the secret. Let's hope that this is a precursor of things to come, and academicians finally come to their senses to arrive at the realization that Aristotle's sister wrote the Metaphysics, the Sistine Chapel was painted by Michelangelo's daughter, Galileo's wife first proposed his theories of falling bodies, Gutenberg's girlfriend invented movable type, Mozart's babysitter composed his piano concertos, and Isaac Newton's washerwoman mentioned to the mathematician the secret of gravitation and invented the calculus as she scrubbed his floors. In fact, James Madison's illiterate laundrywoman actually composed The Federalist Papers, and Thomas Jefferson's doddering nanny wrote the Declaration of Independence. Indeed, womyn were responsble for everything attributed to all those nasty, dead White males, and it's long past time history was rewritten to reflect these facts.

That's actually a really good idea for a dissertation. Maybe I'll write one that Johannes Brahms slowly poisoned Robert Schumann over the years to drive him to madness, all so Johannes could have Clara all to himself! But once Robert was in the crazyhouse, he learned that Clara was, in fact, a hermaphrodite! And he-she had syphilis. And was already involved with Richard Wagner.

You Wrote: "How does his wife writing something have a part of anything other then Western civilization."

- It’s an attempt to distort our history solely because the second wife hasn't been proven to write anything. Which is the whole point. The article is trying to tease readers into thinking that Bach really wasn't the musical genius behind his work, his second wife was, and so Bach must be a liar and a fraud to take credit for it.

The claims can't be proven and they attempt to discredit the original artist. Bach and his work is part of western civilization, culture and history and so my opinion is that attacking him and his work is also attacking his part in our civilization, culture and history. It is just another small jibe by those who prescribe to the lefts moral relativism and disease of self-hatred.
