The article claims that various manuscripts only exist in her handwriting. Not damning proof but fun to talk about. It's be pretty hard to claim Bach was anything other then a musical genius since eyewitness accounts of his organ playing are plentiful.

It is now widely speculated that PDQ's wife, or concubine, was responsible for the music in the Notebook for Betty Sue Bach.

If Bach's copyist had been a male, I don't there would be much to do about this. However to suggest an unknown FEMALE was the composer is so PC that the premise reeks of pseudo-scholarship. Who exactly was this woman and what musical background did she have?
Note Mozart's last work, The Requiem, was in fact finished by others as Mozart died before completing it. No one seems to be trying too hard to attribute sections of this masterpiece to any of them ...likely because they were male.

Anna Magdalena Bach gave birth to 13 children. And had time to compose some of Bach's best works? Baloney, or if you prefer: Bratwurst!!

As the originator of this thread, I hope no one blames me for all the bad puns. While some of the puns are a treble overdone and fall flat, you can keep a sharp eye out for a few fine' ones.

Greatly interesting article. As for its thesis? Well, who wrote John Updike's works, him or his printer? Who wrote the author's dissertation, him or his typist?

Dear The Great RJ,
I'm not sure what you mean by "an unknown FEMALE..."
We know that Anna Magdalena was JS Bach's second wife, bore him a whole mess of children, and was his great help in his work. As I recall, she did have a significant musical background, and to deny that she played an important role in helping JS Bach to accomplish his great achievements would be as inaccurate as saying that she composed the works actually attributed to JS Bach.
