If this report is true, it could provide answers to some curious behaviors of N. Korea regime. It has been marching fast to install Kim Jong-chol at one point. I think he is still a favorite, but in no way a shoe-in. If serious power struggle is about to break out over the succession issue, Kim Jong-il's regime will implode. The defeated faction in this struggle would not go silently. In earlier days, lost faction would be liquidated into oblivion. However, these days, they can regroup and fight back by forging alliance with foreign powers such as China or U.S., since they already have some power base and resources at their disposal.
I am sure that such a prospect also occurred to Kim Jong-il and decided that he can put off this succession business for a while. It was intended as a way of showing that N. Korea's hereditary regime is safe and sound, but now it could fracture the regime it is supposed to solidify, a trouble not worth taking.

>>Sankei reports that Kim Jong-nam and Kim Kyong-hee apparently forged an alliance, and, citing Jan Sun-taek's confirmed reinstatement, the struggle among Kim Jong-nam, the eldest, Kim Jong-chol, the second, and Kim Jong-un, the third) is intensifying to be a successor (to Kim Jong-il.)<<
How un-communist to only consider rulership by blood relation.

They look very well fed for a country that is starving.

Here we go again!
Some intelligence agency tells the newspapers about their secret surveillance activities, and gets it published to the world.
End of phone calls.
End of information.

On the bright side, this leak could be intentional, trying to mess up the already terrible relation among "royal family." Let them shoot one another!

One can only hope that the next time Li'l Kim decides to take a train trip, it'll be a family affair.
God help those poor people in North Korea, because the U.N. sure as hell won't.
Three world leaders that prove Pat Robertson was right:
1. Hugo Chavez of Venezuela
2. Kim Jung IL of North Korea
3. President Mo Psycho of Iran
There are so many more...the face of evil is grinning around the world these days. Proof positive is the satellite map that is sometimes displayed here at FR. It shows a totally dark and cold North Korea, surrounded by the lights and power of it's neighbors. Shocking, and so very sad.

Many Roman Emperors were reluctant to name their successor, fearing the succession would take place sooner than they desired. Emperor Tiberius was suspected of being responsible for the death of Germanicus, his adopted son. His son Drusus was killed by Sejanus one of Tiberious's advisers. This resulted in Caligua as the next Emperor. The N.Korean succession is beginning to look something like a similar succession struggle.
The big question is, will N. Korea implode before Kim Jong-il dies. I think it will.
When he dies and there is a succession struggle, N. Korea is very likely to implode.

Some North Koreans are more equal than others.

Re #13
I share your view that N. Korea could implode before Kim Jong-il's death, succession intrigue being one of the main contributors.

I had actually copied what is below before I saw your post.
It's a family affair, it's a family affair
It's a family affair, it's a family affair
