Just for the purpose of accuracy (Urban Myths die slowly):

Dahmer while serving his time at the Columbia Correctional Institute in Portage, Wisconsin was beat to death by Christopher Scarver, a double murderer.

Scarver beat Dahmer and another inmate, Jesse Anderson, to death with a broom in the prison while all three were on work detail cleaning a bathroom.

Scarver, a psychotic black inmate with a history of violence towards whites, was transferred into the protective custody crew where Dahmer worked by prison officials - once there he killed the two white men and walked back to his cell.

Justice or not, it is best that we understand that this was a State hit.

A large percent of "inmate on inmate" violence is under the direction and manipulation of prison officials.

Oh yeah, most of the state prisons are at or near Canon City. When we hear sirens going off here in Nebraska, it's likely a tornado warning. In Canon City when the sirens go off it means there was a prison break (unless it's during the test times). We've been stopped at roadblocks and had our vehicle checked for escapees on several occasions. I believe that all in all, there are about nine correctional facilities in and around that area. "Old Max" is on the west edge of town at the base of the hogbacks. There is a very scenic road called Skyline Drive that was built by prisoners that runs up and over the hogbacks just to the northwest of Old Max. It is a one lane, paved road with a couple of pull-outs where you can look over the whole city and surrounding area. The road makes some people nervous as it drops off steeply on both sides right at the edge of the blacktop (it runs right along the top of the "spine" on the hogbacks).
