I see the benefit for the military and our foreign policy types, but I think many of these Islamic Studies departments popping up on campuses around the country are shams, and fronts for radical Islamic activity on campus.

In 2003, the school received a gift of $2.5 million from former Oracle executive Sohaib Abbasi and his wife, Sara, to establish a program in Islamic studies.

President Dewey of the Univ. of Chicago was confronted in a Q & A session after an address by a dignified lady who asked him if it were true that the university taught communism in the political science depart. The university president said: "Yes madam, and it also true that we teach cancer in the medical school." That's about as much sense as the "look under the bed for a communist" philosophy and equal to the comment that current university departments setting up Islamic studies courses are a sham for radicals and bad guys. Every university must keep its accreditation and no univ. is going to place that guarded status in jeopardy. Reflection on that comment should illustrate how foolish was the responsive post about shams.

The only sham at work today is that Rumsfeld is a competent and effective SecDef.

You have empirical data to demonstrate that the young minds exposed to islamic culture within a decidingly liberal and biased politically correct environment such as academia are not compromised?

Another belated, but interesting, article for our college education ping list.

Let JamesP81, Jalisco555, or me know if you want on or off the college education ping list.

I don't agree with you, but I think one of the advantages of FR is that we can throw rocks (and larger) at each other and still express our opinions and come back tomorrow and agree.

Try that on most liberal faculties I know. (Or at conventions)
