This sounded to me like a woman speaking, but I have never heard Lacy Clay (a guy) speak, so maybe he does sound like a girl.
I even bet you could get enough Guard to either volunteer (No one ever hears about all the Guard bums out there) or the AGR. The only problem might be getting enough of the right MOS. Hubby said he would volunteer for 6 months but they wouldn't need more than a handful of LTC.
IMHO, all that's happening is that the dims in the Senate are just letting every screwball idea that they can think of get lathered onto the Senate bill. All the while, the dipstick Pubbies just keep trying to please everybody by outdoing the dims with even MORE screwball stuff.
If this mess ever makes it off the Senate floor, the Conference committee is going to take until the Second Coming to resolve a quarter of the differences, and then the dims will find some excuse to go back and play the whole concerto for tin horns from the overture. If an agreement ever does happen, the result is going to be such a grade AAA cluster**** that Bush is going to have no choice but veto the thing.
End result, as the dims see it, is a win-win for them: If a bill gets signed, they'll take the credit and let their trolls go spread hate and discontent amoungst the Pubby base and if it dies, they'll blame Bush and send the trolls out with THAT set of talking points.
If I had my way, the WH would just haul the Senate leadership in for a Come-to-Jesus session, tell 'em to quit wasting time and just flush that blivet down the nearest commode while the WH sends out instructions that the EXISTING laws on the books are to be fully and completely enforced and the border is to be sealed mo' skosh.
These people keep screwing around drawing lines in the sand, and never enforce the ones they drew two weeks ago......
Give me a mainframe and some very simple datbase structures and a database guy and maybe 15-30 programmers and the right design and you could fix it. THey did it with passports. Passports are efficient nowadays. And you could charge the immigrants for the upgrade to the system. It would be virtually self-financing.
