forget the triggers.
this should be a border enforcement bill only.
Ken Mehlman must have informed the Prez and Karl Rove that the spigot to the RNC has slowed down to a trickle.
I know I must have answered about a dozen solicitation letters and half a dozen phone calls in the past three months with "thanks but no thanks, NO AMNESTY, ESTUPIDOS!"
I do put my own stamps on the return envelopes, however.

So a graduated amnesty rather than a full on amnesty.
The courts will reject the no citizenship as "inhuman"
I say forget the whole legalizing concept.
THEY CAN USE THE PRESENT SYSTEM IF THEY HAVE BEEN HERE FOR TEN YEARS!!!!!!
THE PRESENT SYSTEM ALLOWS FOR LEGALIZATION IF THEY HAVE BEEN HERE FOR TEN YEARS AND THEY HAVE NOT COMMITTED ANY FELONIES (LIKE VOTING IN AN ELECTION)
IT IS A ROLLING AMNESTY THAT HAS EXISTED FOR DECADES.
There is no reason for a "blue" card or any other BS virtual amnesty.
The Pence plan seems just as much an amnesty because it coddles the illegals in SOME fashion.
If Bush buys off on the Pence plan, it will be a big old waffle move by Dubya, but it will change nothing. The House still wants HR4437 to become law and will settle for nothing else.
Count the number of NG on the border.
So far, the actual number for June was less than 20% of the 'projected number'.
And catch-and-release is still going on.

The Admin has little credibility on border related issues.
Let's not underestimate the impact this debate would have had on the results of the Mexican election. Now that the ballots have been cast, we can talk more openly about enforcement first options.
The Pence plan is amnesty.
Well if I was NK, I would really be worried.
Agreed.
ENFORCE FIRST!!!!
And thankfully, absolutely nobody bought into Bush's double-talking little shell game.
Today, (July 4th), I drove past a little lake near my home town. For as long as I can remember this lake, with its little sandy beach and grassy field, it's been a perfect summer gathering park for local citizens and families. Not anymore. Today I saw around 1,500 hispanics gathering there, which is approximately 1,000 more people than the park can safely and reasonably handle. I saw no local citizens or anyone who even remotely looked American. They were speaking Spanish, blaring Spanish music, and many of their cars proudly displayed signs like "Puerto Rico", "Mexico", etc. Not a single American flag was being displayed, and in spite of numerous signs prohibiting grille fires, they were all cooking on open fires, and for all the world it looked as though I were traveling through some festival in Mexico.
Well, about time.
I stopped contributing to the GOP and told them they would not see a penny from me until the White House adopted a more stringent position against illegal immigration. Not that I contribute millions, but every penny counts!
My take on the Pence "Not Amnesty" plan:
"I want a car, any car is fine as long as it's not a red car."
"Here's the perfect car for you!"
"It's red though! I said no red cars."
"It's not a red car. A red car is a car that is red all over. The tires are black and the rims are chrome, so it's not a red car."
"You are retarded."
He's always wanted amnesty, but now he's worried about his legacy.
"The question now is whether President Bush will be able to find that middle ground in time for the midterm elections. Mr. Cole, the Oklahoma Republican, was not optimistic.
"Our people would like to have some sort of solution," he said, "but my instinct tells me this is much more likely to be a post-November, or a 2007 kind of deal than it is to happen between now and then.""
Are we to assume that the House will go ahead and open the borders and grant citizenship, but just not before the Nov. 2006 elections? I've seen so many statements that make it seem as if immigration will open up, but just not NOW. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Excellent news, if true...but this is from NY Times, so I neither trust the information, nor the motive for reporting it.
