1996 Allegations Still Painful For Jewell

I remember a TV story done about a consultant who was hired to investigate them. He said he was convinced on the way out there that they were complicit, that they met the criteria for being directly involved in the slaying. But after spending a week or so with them he came away convinced they were innocent. I don't recall who did the story, but it was done well and I remember it as being what I considered very competent journalism.

My heart still goes out to that family, especially with the recent death of the mother from cancer. I have no doubt the stress she endured for over nine years contributed in a large part to her sickness and eventual death.

I'll never forget the FBI spokescreature who appeared on CNN, while Jewell was considered a suspect. Blond suit who interrupted Jewell's lawyer continually, and when the man was able to get a word in edgewise, laughed and shook his head as he was trying to talk to the anchor. The suit ended by proclaiming Jewell's suit against the FBI was without merit and motivated by greed-as if the FBI was justified in releasing its mere suspicions to the media and thereby ruining a man's life, rather then waiting to introduce their allegations in a court of law.
