What Bush did there was just wrong.

However, we're lucky Merkel is chancellor now. She's lived under oppression (she was raised in East Germany) and apparently has little tolerance for it.

6 was good too, had captain vontrapp as the klingon.

Yep, that one was pretty good. It was darker than the rest, which suited the franchise better than I would've thought. Interesting that the Klingon bad guy had a Chinese surname and was stirring up trouble in a film that had obvious references to the end of the Cold War.

Gen. Chang (von Trapp): "We need breathing room!"
Kirk: "Earth... Hitler... 1938". (Chekov and Scotty wince at the reference, Uhura nearly does a spit-take with her Romulan Ale)
Gen. Chang: "I beg your pardon?..."

*******

Heh.

Actually my take is that germany finally realizes how much our bases in germany USED to contribute to their overall economy. They are learning from past mistakes.

that movie was just full of cold war references, the other one that was amusing was the old vulcan proverb, "only nixon could go to china."

My layman's reading of the current Middle East situation is that all the major powers (although they won't admit to it) are hoping that the current situation leads to a US/Iranian show down which will result in a complete destruction of Iran's nuclear capability.
If this should happen, they will howl and whine but secretly approve of a result that they all know could never be achieved through the UN.

"Sounds like the German's and Brits are realists. this is good news. France on the other hand is becoming like russia and china. A destabilizing force thats works against democracy and liberty.I know they are many good frenhcmen but I dont not trust the French government at all."

Germany paid a price for their arrogant Bush/America hating policies. This new PM is more balanced. Also, Russian energy policies and reliance on them is being viewed as a mistake after they saw what happened in Ukraine & Poland. Sometimes it takes being bit by the bad guys to know who the good guys are. France will be France...

This new PM is more balanced.

Just a bit of nitpicking: Germany in (almost) all its history has never been a unitary state, but a federation, formerly of semi-independent kingdoms, today of federal states just like the US.

The head of government on the federal level is therefore not called Prime Minister (Premierminister / Ministerpräsident in German, that title is reserved for the governors of the single German states or Bundesländer), but chancellor. Historically it was "Reichskanzler" or imperial chancellor (the word "Reich" has a few other meanings besides "empire" [~ Kaiserreich], in its broadest sense it simply means "dominion" or "realm"), today it is "Bundeskanzler" or federal chancellor.

"Britain and Germany today watered down a strong European Union call for an immediate ceasefire in the Israel-Lebanon conflict as foreign ministers clashed in Brussels. "

This is a good sign - now get your air force going to take out Syria and Iran and be done with this nonsense already.

She does look a little tense. Dubya helped get rid of that tightness in her neck.

Thanks for the correction, Chancellor would be appropriate.
