Yeah...the left is freaking out about all the liberties we've supposedly lost, and then out comes a statement like trading Bush for Putin...are they NUTS? Mr. KGB wouldn't care WHAT he did and certainly won't care about following any rules.

The russian trawlers are very brash in their mission. We had one bring a pregnant spy into Sandiego once asking to give birth at balboa naval hospital.
The danged trawler had more antennas than nets

Something else was up. We routinley deal with russian trawlers in our waters without killing the crew Heck, we always had a Russian trawler tailing us when I was in the Navy. Not the same thing. They weren't fishing for fish.
I can't stand enviro-wackos, but the Japanese are rapers of the oceans. I think that this is exactly what it appears to be. They were in Russian waters, illegally, and they compounded it by getting a bit arrogant. (Ok, I made that last bit up, but it makes sense. Nobody has ever accused the Japanese of a lack of arrogance).
They were in somebody else's territory, stealing their stuff, and they got shot up. I'd be willing to bet that American fisherman are cheering the Russians right now. Been a long time coming.

By the way, they use the nets to collect refuse from our ships. They "piece" together any info they can get

Japan lost the war. Russia has 11 time zones. Texas is big. All irrelevant facts but true. Do you have any non-irrelevant facts, or are you just bored, and letting your fingers do the talking?

Trespassing, thievery, and violating national borders isn't commerce. It's piracy. They shot pirates.

I'd think that a matter like that could be handled without gunfire.
Unless it was in TX we dont look kindly on thieves in TX.
Honestly, I cant see The Russians firing over fishing rights
