November will come and go and Gov. Perry will be re-elected. All he needs is one more vote than either of the other wannabes get.

Maybe, but when a sitting Republican governor in TX can not get above 40% of the vote he is in trouble even if he wins. The legislature will not feel obliged to listen to him.

We would rather no build a road we do not need. This road is not needed by TX.

You know what would help transportation? Well-planned cities with honest-to-goodness subway systems and park-and-ride commuter rail. That's great for large urban areas.
But the corridors between the Metroplex and Houston and the Metroplex and Austin-San Antonio have to be addressed. And, it makes consummate sense to me to have a highway constructed in which users pay their way, as long as another route is available (as it is in I-35).
Nobody I know cares one way or another about this project, until they're told their trips to Austin will be made easier.

I do know some opposed, but they feel that the work is being done by some secret protocol with foreign companies. Evidence of Bell/Strayhorn/Friedman talking point number 1. Foreign investment. The secrecy angle is somewhat new. If we look at the text of this article: But that was enough to bring out about 13,600 people to the 55 public hearings held this summer on TTC-35
Yep. This whole thing has been pulled off in smoky back rooms.

As folks sit in traffic jams next to toxic cargo in trucks will love this. Perry will rock in the fall just because of this issue. someone finally trying to look down the road.
To: Hydroshock
Like I said I do not k now anyone in over 20 people who support this boondoggle of a road. You signed on this forum to trash Perry, first over the property tax cut, and then the TTC.
All your friends are Democrats, or Democrat-lite.
Or, they're part of that looney-tunes group of Republicans whose court case against the legislature was laughed out of court last week.

This road is not needed by TX. You don't drive between Austin and Dallas very much.

Not needed today or in the future when it'll be completed? I don't think you can say the future as there will have to be roadways for people to use. I agree it isn't needed in total today but some sections especially along I-35 in the SA/A area need relief now or maybe you don't get out much.
DFW metroplex needs another loop which this will assist in if'n the metroplex is included. Do you drive the major roadways very often, say I-35, I-45, I-10, I-20 and I-30?

This is going to cost Gov. Goodhair in November. And we do not even make it to 15 posts before the crucial issue that is burning in the heart of every Texan is entered for serious debate. The hair of the governor. Yet let us not digress.....
To: Hydroshock
The legislature will not feel obliged to listen to him. The legislature is, and will remain, Republican. If you've paid attention the last two years, he pretty much get what he wants.

In 2002 my brother, father and myself voted for Gov Goodhair, we all have said we will not vote for him in November. When a sitting Republican governor in TX can not get above 40% of the vote he is in trouble.

Lets see Gov. Goodhair signed into law a massive new ax and is supporting a massive land grab for a raod most do not want. That is why I will not vote for him.

I believe people are resistant to toll roads because they pay plenty of taxes as it is and believe, correctly, that they're paying enough to fund transportation from existing tax dollars, rather than adding tolls on top. It's a matter of spending priorities.
Here in Charlotte NC the state govt is trying to fund the completion of our outer belt highway with tolls, while continuing to spend our tax dollars to build new roads and pave dirt roads in other parts of the state.

To: Hydroshock
When a sitting Republican governor in TX can not get above 40% of the vote he is in trouble. Except that's all he needs against that menagerie running against him.
Kinky looks sillier by the day (Willie "I-don't-pay-taxes" Nelson in a created state office?), and Strayhorn's office keeps putting out press releases that helps Perry by pointing out how strong the Texas economy is.
