Interesting
LAst I knew of Las Vegas, all staff wore ID badges, visitiors had to be badged and so on. At the middle and high school multiple, well armed, 'school police' (paid for by the district) walk the halls. They have handi-talkis to stay in touch with each other, the school office and the local Metro cops. All becasue of gangs, so the terrs are unlikely to try anything this hard.
In Anchorage, school visitors are badged and the staff keeps a pretty good eye out but things still happen.
A couple of years ago a 'homeless man' (ie - crackehad) got into a group of students with a knife before school started - seems some parents were dropping their kids off at school up to 2 hours before the doors opened.
He was finally disarmed by a cop -- using a chair. After slashing up a few kids. I would have shot the SOB, but guns are not allowed around schools. Once again, becasue of gang problems with in the greater USofA.
We have so many 'soft targets' we can only hope the FedGov can stop most of terr planning overseas.

got to agree with you but not just schools, but all sorts of soft targets are open, and vulnerable. Look at the scenario Tom Clancy wrote in "teeth of the Tiger" when four groups of terrorists attacked in different malls throughout the states.
maybe I'm paranoid, but these are some of the reasons I stay cocked, locked, and carry extra mags in the post 9/11 world!

well, that's why people like me live where we do. laughed at as flyover country, we don't have traffic, TOO much trouble with gangs (they're there, but not dominant), or weirdos who have had plastic surgery or are obsessed with weighing 100 lbs.
a great place to live, if i must say so myself.
and a perfect target, i would wager.

No moreso than Nome Alaska. Good name recofnition but small enought to not provoke a strike in retaliation.
