I doubt it is the SS-N-15. Even if they have put together a sub-launched missile with a range of over 200 miles...they have to be able to target what they are shooting at.

With ground based installations this is easier...but reports indicate it was shot at a target onm the surface of the sea. With a moving target at sea they have to have other means of targeting than inertia guidance which they are not likely to possess for over the horizon targeting, or if they do, are not likely to survive very loing in a shooting war.

Just my opinion.

Of course in the Straits, everything is pretty much a visible target and its and easy waterway to shut down with a few missiles and the will to use them...and also the understanding that the consequeences will be severe.

In the face of this news, the US State Dept and Homeland Security Dept should immediately give the Iranian military and CAIR a briefing on our anti-missile technologies, just to show them that we are their friends.

We should "disappear" all Iranian subs. No announcements, no claim of responsibility, just make them go away.

Iran successfully test-fired a submarine-launched long-range missile in the Persian Gulf, Iranian state television reported on Sunday.

Define long range, was it guided and what was the target it hit?

Iran has 3 submarines made in Russia :
Submarine Kilo class 877EKM

Number Name Year Homeport Notes
901 Tareq 1992 Bandar Abbas
902 Noor 1993 Bandar Abbas
903 Yunes 1997 Bandar Abbas
Displacement: 3,076 tons full load
Dimensions: 74.3 x 10 x 6.6 meters (243.5 x 33 x 21.5 feet)
Propulsion: Diesel-electric, 3 diesels, 5,900 shp, 17 knots
Crew: 53
Sonar: MGK-400 Rubicon LF suite, Mouse Roar HF active
Armament: 6 21 inch torpedo tubes (18 torpedoes)
Soviet built for export. These boats are reported to have
serious operational difficulties

Moreover, Kommersant found out that Rosoboronexport is negotiating with Iran about repair and modernization of Iranian submarines. Iran has three submarines of Project 877EKM that were supplied by Russia in 1992 (Russian name of the sub B-219, Iranian—901 Tareq), in June 1993 (B-224, 902 Noor) and in November 1996 (B-175, 903 Yunes). It was expected that all the major components that already exceeded their life expectancy will be replaced. Also, the new anti-ship missile complex Club-S with the target distance of 200 km will be installed on these subs. The refurbishing of each sub would be done under the contract which costs anywhere from $80 to $90 million. Originally it was expected that the refurbishing will be done in Zvezdochka Co (Severo-Dvinsk) but Admiralty Shipyards are also fighting for the contract.

There is an ill wind blowing. Many on this Blog have wondered what they would do in case of a war on our soil. I would suggest that it is time to start working on our shooting skills and physical fitness.

It doesn't have to be long range to stand off the coast of the US or Israel beyond the territorial limit of 12 or three miles depending on your observance of the Law of the Sea treaty.

The range is not that important if you intend to initiate a first strike off the coast of Israel with nuclear tipped missiles.

It might be well to find out who the neighbors are. When the balloon goes up all the mobility we think is our birthright will be gone overnight and we will have only our neighbors to rely on until FEMA shows up in a few decades. It wouldn't hurt to stay active anyway and that doesn't mean driving the truck into town every day. I try to do some shooting several times a week, but I doubt that will be as useful as knowing who is in the community.

They need to be made into artificial reefs even sooner - who is to say that there couldn't have been some... er... accident? Say, on of those old naval mines the Iranians themselves used to sow in the Gulf. Things could happen, couldn't they?

"FOX reports this is a RUSSIAN origin missile - way too much technology for Iran to have developed on their own"

FOX is on the money, it's a Russkie sub alright, a Kilo-class diesel valued at about $250 million each. The submarines are said to be equipped with six tubes for firing torpedoes or laying mines.

From Putin's Moscow, with love, to their anti-Western jihadist comrades in Tehran.

ENEMY WEAPON: Russian VA-111 Shkval

Do we have to wonder why Putin is so opposed to slapping Iran with sanctions?

Russia Rules Out Iran Sanctions for Now

One of Putin's anti-Western reasons:

Russian and Iranian technicians work inside the reactor building of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, in southern Iran, February 2006. Iran is ready for unconditional talks over its nuclear program but rejects the West's "language of force" over the issue, one of the Islamic republic's religious leaders has said.(AFP/File/Behrouz Mehri)

Russia Enters Final Stage of Bushehr Nuclear Project in Iran

Defiant Iran vows to continue making nuclear fuel

Behind the obvious anti-American & anti-Israeli enemies of OPEC's Iran, Syria, North Korea, Cuba & OPEC's Venezuela is the Kremlin, coupled with Red China, supplying these enemy states with massive military arsenals to fight offensive wars. Nothing has changed since the old days. Russia & Red China are still using client states in their proxy war against the West.

During Iran's "Blow of Zolfaqar" wargames they have already test fired submarine launched missiles in practice trials for blasting oil supertankers entering or exiting the Persian Gulf.

Some of the new missiles being tested are coast-to-sea, surface-to-surface and air-to-surface. If additional sanctions are implemented, Tehran's Islamic thugs are preparing to swiftly respond militarily, knowing that any threat to energy related shipping lanes of the Gulf will increase the price of oil dramatically, in which the Mullah régime will earn more billions for their global jihad, plus the enemy will also attempt to divide those nations involved in more economic pressures against Iran especially those countries dependent on overseas sources of oil and natural gas.

The Iranians have and shall continue playing the energy markets for all they are worth, considering they are in the drivers seat and are manipulating the price of crude oil up or down through their actions or rumors of action.

Personification of evil: Fanatical Iranian cleric Ahmad Khatami delivers a sermon at a university in Tehran August 25th, 2006.

Iran's Islamic dictatorship earns huge sums of revenue if oil climbs in price, or declines in price, and they, like Saddam have become masters of "insider trading". Each time crude oil rises or decreases $1, that equals $1K per contract - for more advanced Russian or Red Chinese weaponry, more terrorist training, bundles of cold cash (OPEC profits) for the Islamic serial killers of Hamas, Hezballah, Iraq's Shi'ite gangs of jihadists on their rampage of death & destruction against American & Coalition troops, plus those Iranian agents slithering back and forth over the Afghan-Iran border & on & on & on...

A TV grab taken from Iran's state television shows the test firing of a new missile. Iran has successfully test-fired a "long-range radar-evading" sea-to-air missile in military maneuvers in southern Gulf waters, a top military official told state television.(AFP/Iranian TV/File)

When are we in the West going to wake up and hit this barbaric enemy before they trigger a Western economic meltdown?

Israel will not wait until Iran launches "ovens from Persian skies". Never Again!
