Eaten skate wings? I hope they didn't knock your teeth out.......
A man I knew lived in Florida and sold stingray as scallops. He, and his friends, had tools to cut scallop sized plugs from stingray. I've eaten stingray served as stingray. It was pretty good.
Q: Are skates really used to make "imitation" scallops? A: The long-held myth that skate wings are often cut into pieces to be sold as scallops is one of those "believe it or not" stories that was never a common practice. The unusual bands of muscle fibers in skate wings would make it very difficult to produce a product that remotely resembles a scallop. In addition, this process would probably be so labor intensive that the resulting product could make the product cost almost as much as the real scallop that it was intended to imitate. Although the myth is untrue, it does pay homage to the sweet and appealing shellfish-like taste of skate.
I guess you dont pay much attention to yourself then.
No no. Your line was, "I know I am, but what are you?" But thanks for the chuckle.
You better watch out. Talk like that will get you in trouble here.cause you know cockroaches have as much right to live as you do. You should just leave them alone unless you are going to eat them.
"If mosquitos were eradicated. Dragon Flies would starve, and die off, too. The DF Larvae prey upon the wiggly mosquito larvae"
Well, they haven't been eating enough larvae, especially around my place. If I were boss of the ecosystem, I would fire them for gross incompetence.
If mosquito free summers require dragonflies to disappear as well, I think I could live with that.
And before we escalate the argument to frogs and herons, let me point out that i understand the whole balance argument, and my suggestion of eradication is only hypothetical.
MIAMI (Reuters) - A Florida diver shot a large grouper with a spear gun then apparently drowned when the fish sped into a hole, entangling the man in the line attached to the spear, investigators said on Monday.
The 42-year-old man, whose name was withheld, was free-diving in about 25 feet of water off the lower Florida Keys on Saturday and speared a Goliath Grouper, Monroe County Sheriff's Detective Mark Coleman said.
"It looks like the fish wrapped the line attached to the spear around the victim's wrist. The fish then went into a hole in a coral rock, effectively pinning the man to the bottom of the ocean," Coleman said in a news release.
Police divers found the speared fish tightly wedged into the hole, with the man's body still tangled in the line, a sheriff's spokeswoman said.
Goliath Grouper are the largest members of the sea bass family and can weigh hundreds of pounds.

Some people, like radical muslims, are lower life forms, so the comparison is justified.
You said "obviously", but think you meant "evidently". (Words mean things).
Ranch: no
Farms: yes
We have plenty of rattlers here in Oklahoma. I've killed my share, but never just beacuse they were snakes.
Great pix - we were diving and feeding squid to stingrays last week and had a great time - there were also a few juvenile rays there and I got chomped by one who was so excited to get food. It is more like a strong pinch as they don't have teeth. Since their eyes are on top they use their sense of smell to find the food.
Very sad that people would intentionally hurt/kill these marvelous creatures.
You, on the other hand, claim to be a Christian yet apparently think eradicating God's creatures is all right with him. You know the parable about the unfaithful steward who buried his talent and was punished for his failure? Well if you had your way you'd start with one talent and end up with none. Good and faithful servant, huh?
"You, on the other hand, claim to be a Christian yet apparently think eradicating God's creatures is all right with him."
Rats, poisonous snakes, spiders..............
If you're a Christian, are you under the impression that someone else made them?
A few years back, here in the Panhandle of Florida, Bay County Mosquito Control District authorities started an experimental program to introduce an Asian mosquito into the ecosystem. This had previously been done in Hawaii. This Asian mosquito larvae preys upon other species mosquito larvae, and also it doesn't feed on humans. In the native American species, the only ones that bite are females which need mammalian warm blood to help fertilize their eggs. Males don't bite. There are several species that don't bite also. Here in Okaloosa County, we have spray trucks that come around regularly and spray for mosquitoes. It'll be an ongoing battle forever........
"cockroaches have as much right to live as you do. You should just leave them alone unless you are going to eat them."
I hear they taste like liberals.
If I see a rattler I kill it if I can, because if it's that close to me it is very likely to be dangerous.
OTOH I won't kill a black snake for the hell of it.
I will kill a beaver too, and ants, all for the same reasons. Pests.
That's what I was wondering... After seeing the news reports on what the barb is like and seeing photos of them during all the coverage of Irwin's death, I found myself kind of wanting one as a conversation piece, they're interesting and pretty cool. I wouldn't want to kill a stingray for one, though, but a lot of other people might, and/or might want to buy one (which would create a demand that could induce other people to "farm" them for sale by capturing and killing stingrays for barbs to sell). The wide publicity from the news reports could have ramped up a lot of demand for them.
