"Challenge. She's never been more than a B-lister at best.

Her one shot was the brief popularity of The Rose 30 years ago."

I don't dispute your assessment. I've never been a fan of Streisand or Midler. I have no way of judging Midler's talent since I've never had the least interest in her or her music. What little I know is strictly hearsay!

Doing more research, I find that Midler's had only one #1 hit single on the pop charts and that only one album of hers has ever gone platinum. And that was solely on the strength of Beaches, that whiny chick-flick par excellence from 20 years ago.

Yet she has been relentlessly promoted more than many acts with better track records.

Why would anybody spend any money to see that lady?

I majored in theater arts and film in college. I had a teacher who, on the first day of class, put Midler singing "Do You Want To Dance" on, and had us do "interpretive dancing" (LOL) to loosen us up, (I guess.) He thought Midler was the cat's meow. He was gay...(of course.) Even then I thought the whole thing was completely idiotic and goofy, and that she could not sing worth a damn.

I heard on the radio that when Patti LaBelle performed at BayFest in Mobile (AL) this past Sat night, it wasn't a concert but a Bush bashing party. Fortunately, I didn't go to that stage, tho I'd considered checking it our since, well, she's Patti LaBelle and been around awhile..apparently too long. I heard the crowd was eating it up.

On the other hand, Lynyrd Skynyrd performed Sunday night and it was flags and God and praise and love to all our troops especially during "Red, White and Blue". ("My hair's turning white, my neck's always been red, my collar's still blue.") Some Navy Officers (Hubby said their hats were officers, the others with 'sailor' hats are Seamen) were a few rows up from us and HAVING A BLAST! It was great to see and after the concert I went up shake their hands and got a kiss!

Midler, to her credit, brought back the great music of the WWII era with her cover of The Andrews Sisters' "Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy" and Glenn Miller's "In The Mood".

However, you are so right about her singing. When I played "Booogie-Woogie Bugle Boy" for my mother, who was very well acquainted with the original, she made a sour face and said, "She sings flat."

Next week Babs will be an invited speaker at Columbia University. Invited by Bolinger himself.

The Today show was talking about this incident. Said it was a professional heckler. As if it makes a difference!

What is astounding is that the NYTimes review of her concert doesn't even mention this incident.

What exactly is this woman's appeal? If you're not a homosexual man, that is.

"What a great President James Brolin"

Wouldn't that be Presient James Brolin-Streisand?

well she made the lamestream mess, DU no doubt, and now FR--so guess her scheme worked...

A few comments from the DUmp:

"Good for her, but now she's given Rush Limbaugh several months of material"

"The guy who heckled her was found to be a plant, a professional heckler"

hat exactly is this woman's appeal?

These liberals are living in the past, probably reliving their youth and spending their retirement dollars on this nasty person.
