Eat your government rationed Soylent Green. It's good for you!
After all, you are too dumb to make your own choices.
"I am SOOOOOOOO thankful my kid is grown."
Mine, too. I mean, how on Earth was I able to raise him without Mother Government directing me every step of the way? LOL!
My kid is now, technically, a 'Starving College Student' living on beer and mac-n-cheese. He came over for dinner the other night, and scarfed down EVERYTHING in sight. I'm glad the cats were out in the barn, or they would've been fair game too! Or would that be 'Fare Game?' LOL!
We NEVER had soda or Doritos or any of that stuff in the house while he was growing up. The furthest I would go for "snacks" were pretzels and air-popped popcorn when we had Family Movie Night on some weekends. I packed his lunch faithfully for a full decade, and he was allowed to have School Lunch if he paid for it himself.
For me, it wasn't a question of what the school wanted to feed him, it was one of Economics. It was CHEAPER for me to feed him healthfully (sandwich, yogurt, fruit, cookies, money for 2 cartons of milk and a totally EMBARASSING 'Love or Motivational Note') from home, but he was absolutely free to spend any of his own EARNED money on Snickers Bars if he CHOSE to. And we never had any health or obesity problems with this kid. He's tall, slender, has a great set of choppers due to lack-o-soda in his teeth-growing years and no health problems to this day.
And he's so cheap now, moths fly out of his wallet when he opens it, ala Jack Benny, LOL!
"Tell me about it - remember, my kid is only 8.....I've got a LOOOOOOOOOONG way to go."
And don't miss a SECOND of it; it goes by too fast!

"In which case "the private sector" becomes a de-facto extension of the state, helping The Man shove his fascist program down our throats. Don't listen to anybody who tells you, "well, it's only for kids in schools", as this is merely the beginning of their plan to run every little detail of everybody's life."
*APPLAUSE* You've read your Ayn Rand, I see! :)
I may be a CC - but I ain't that crunchy........
Very well stated!!!!!!!
From the article: "consumer freedom advocates who warn of a first step towards a nanny state where personal choice and responsibility are inhibited."
You gotta be kidding me! First steps??!? We're a LOOOOOONNG way down that road already!!! Hahahahaha. People who want freedom better learn to stick together on ALL the issues that infringe on it.
Soon, they'll be breaking down our doors and searching our pantries for Crisco!
When they outlaw Crisco, only Outlaws will have Crisco. And I'll be one of 'em, Baby! :)
That's a mild way of putting it.
We've all been saying it for years that it would not stop with smoking, but we were ignored.
Folks like Diana give me much hope. She's a non-smoker, but understands what is going on.
"I may be a CC - but I ain't that crunchy..."
You know I'll fully win you over, eventually. Resistance is FUTILE!
Kiss mah grits!!!!!!!!!
LOL!!!!
I'm dying here - I put enough habanero peppers in the freezer this afternoon to make 9 cases of jelly. When my friend got here this afternoon I would not let her bring her 2yo in the house, the 2 eight yos had to keep her outside while we dealt with girl scout stuff in the house. The fumes from the peppers were that bad. The 2yo has asthma.
clif bars are a decent alternative and actually those and
boost are very good for our son's crohns disease. he can
digest them well and get loads of nutrients. his doctor
rec. them to us. :)
"She's a non-smoker, but understands what is going on."
I guess I forgot to tell ya...I DID take up smoking last week at age 46. Just for the PRINCIPLE of it! (Just kiddin'!) Smoking does not appeal to me in the least, but what if one day the Nanny Staters decide that CROCHET is "bad" for us, and all YARN is now "contraband?" OMG! I'd go insane! What if my little farm was confiscated and conscripted to grow food FOR THE COMMON GOOD and not just to feed my own family and make a few bucks each year selling food to others at my Farm Stand? What if all eggs from my laying hens were now to be turned over to the Governor of my state for his personal use? Scarey, ain't it?
So, I feel your pain, and I hope and pray and fight The Good Fight so MY legal, adult indulgences and income generating hobbies aren't the next thing on the Nanny Stater's Chopping Block!
And for those of you out there who are lurking and don't think YOUR favorite hobby, amusement, can of soda-pop, bag of M&Ms or WAY OF MAKING A LIVING is next on their list, you are being very naive and have been warned!
Here is an EXTREME example when butted against addressing our food choices, but what makes anyone think that once the Nanny Staters have a toe-hold on ANY subject, they'll STOP there? They never have in the past. (Abortion, partial-birth abortion, gay marriage, tax increases with NO end in sight, etc.)
"In Germany, the Nazis first came for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics, but I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak for me."
~Rev. Martin Niemöller. (1892-1984)
"The fumes from the peppers were that bad."
Sounds like the year DH & his friend Gary decided to dig up our entire Horseradish Patch (while I was out for the day) and process the stuff in our kitchen using my blender. Gawd! My kitchen could've be declared a Toxic Waste Dump and I could have applied for an EPA Superfund grant to clean it up, LOL!
I chased them out at the end of a broom, then opened every window on all three floors of the house, LOL! The place STILL made your eyes water in the morning and the dogs slept outside for the first and last time in their pampered little lives, LOL!
Yeah, you must have seen the quote at the top of my homepage. Every conservative should read her, even if they don't agree with her entirely. She provides a great wealth of rhetorical ammunition. My favorite dialog is the one from Atlas where Dagny is on the train talking to the disheveled bum on who used to work at Twentieth Century Motor Co and witnessed the socialists drive it into ruin. It was chilling in it's portrayal of what leftism does to whatever it's inflicted on.
If that works for your kid, then more power to ya! I have NO problem with Parents making health decisions for their own kids and monitoring what they eat when they do have health related food allergies, etc.
Just know WHO you're giving your money to and enriching in the process; people that want to control what you can and cannot eat, no matter WHAT your circumstance.
You'll also note that the Clif Bar people don't care about YOUR kid, they just care about cozying up to the warped Legislators and Nanny Staters in California, to make a buck.
If you think they make their product "to strict government standards" for any other reason than financial gain, you're missing the point entirely. ;)
Eeeeek! ;)
"Yeah, you must have seen the quote at the top of my homepage."
Actually, I didn't, LOL! I just took an educated guess because there are so few of us that "get it."
Water seeks it's own level and all that rot. ;)
