10/31/06 - 2006 POTENTIALLY VULNERABLE DEMOCRATIC INCUMBENTS

To earn a place on this chart an incumbent had to possess at least one of five serious political risk factors: 1) has a PVI (Partisan Voting Index) score of D+ 3 or less; 2) received under 55% of the vote in 2002; 3) received under 55% of the vote in 2004; 4) has less than
$200,000 cash on hand and/or; 5) has a Republican opponent who had $150,000 or more cash on hand. Obviously, the candidate with the most risk factors is likely to be a serious target in 2006. But, even candidates with just one risk factor could find themselves in serious political risk in 2006. This is not a hard and fast list and many incumbents will come and go off the chart.

Two Republican Indiana Congressmen have contacted Eric in the last 2 weeks. They know what they are seeing that is going on in the race. They know a winner when they see one.

Any idea why this race doesn't seem to be on anyone's radar? I have been watching it for awhile now, and it looks like a possible Republican takeaway.

But Larry Sabato does not mention it. RCP does not mention it. Dunno about Charlie Cook and Stu Rothenberg. Haven't checked them.

Is there something I'm not aware of, that makes this race less of a tossup than it appears to me? Or is it just that a Republican pickup doesn't fit in well with the preferred narrative of a Democratic "wave" (or "tsunami") in 2006, so it must be ignored?

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

The 2 BIG measuring sticks to determine if a candidate is serious and credible by the MEDIA and PUNDITS is how much have you raised and how much have you spent. This is the 10,000 feet view of the race.

By that measuring stick Dickerson does not stand a chance against Carson - 300K vs 60K.

But what they do not see is what is happening on the GROUND. In 2004 no democrat voter would tell the republican candidate they were voting for him. PERIOD.

In 2006 we get democrat voters coming up to us EVERY DAY and say they have voted for Carson every time - but this time they are voting for him.

Eric calls it the Perfect Storm. There are dozens of small things piling up on each other that by themselves will not win the race - but pile them all on top of each other you get a victory at the end of the day.

Voter ID Law
Purge of the voter roles of dead, moved, duplicate names.
No Race Card can be played.
She threw the first mud in the race. Eric is taking the high road and not going negative.
The police are behind him.
The black voters may have had a problem voting for a White republican but may now feel they can vote for a black republican.

they just all add up.

My thoughts (for what they are worth). It's possible that the Dems do not want to win. For them to bring alot of attention to the race, triggers Carson spending of her war chest and a better chance of victory.....If they win, by surprise they can alway WAAAAAA ...."we were robbed!" And Carson gets to keep her money and die at home.

Also Eric Dickerson has spent 2 million branding his name in Iindianapolis since 1999 wih this car dealership.

The voters KNOW who he is - he is not an unkown struggling for some name recognition.

You forgot the difference in energy. It's obvious from your posts that Eric is filled with energy. Julia is tired and ill. Energy may be intangible but IMO it is worth a million dollars!
