This is good for us. Murtha, like Pelosi, can be counted on to say things that rub people the wrong way, to put it mildly.

Murtha was an unindited co-conspirator in the ABSCAM bribery scandal in the Seventies. Should have gone to jail, but skated.
He is also the Dem king of congressional pork barrel earmarks. His little space on the floor of the House has been where the wheeling and dealing has occurred for years.
Then add in the fact that he has become the voice of the radical moonbat antiwar faction, and you have the PERFECT candidate for Majority Leader...at least in Pelosi-World!

This will be (I hope) a battle royal between the "Soros-kook-fringe" and "normal-leftleaning-Democrats".
If Murtha and Pelosi win this battle, it will be a long two years, but they will self destruct in the end. If Hoyer wins, Democrats have a better shot in '08.
This is not going to be pretty, which will make it all the more fun to watch.

As sickening as this is I can't say it's unexpected. I did think there was a chance she wouldn't back the old fool because of his rants, but I guess she's more interested in getting us out of Iraq than the safety of the American people.

He is a CORRUPT, bribe-taking Congressman who must be attacked relentlessly on that basis. Pelosi MUST be asked about ABSCAM, about Murtha's brother the rich defense lobbyist, about all of Murtha's corrupt earmarks to his brother's clients. We must get this info out....but not until he is rammed through as Majority Leader.

I see Murtha as being almost like a Democrat version of Tom Delay - extremely polarizing who will say the oddest things at the most inopportune moments. At the same time, he doesn't seem to share Delay's intelligence or political acumen. In other words, what does Murtha bring to the table?
Hoyer would be the man to go with if they were looking to make deals on domestic policy with the White House. Murtha is the man if they're looking to go into permanent warfare mode. This choice speaks volumes.
If Pelosi next axes Harman for Hastings, my optimism for taking back the House in 2008 will rise considerably.
