puhleeze read my entire post.

Like I said...there are tops available where you can breastfeed without exposing the whole breast.
Besides...the child's head and face cover 90% of it anyway.
People have to look REAL HARD in order to get offended.

well....I guess they could have given the 2 YEAR OLD a cracker or a sandwich so that he wouldn't starve!

I have breast fed 4 infants.

Why on earth couldn't this mother be respectful of others and do so modestly?

Some believe that breastfeeding should continue until the child wants to stop. I don't have a problem with that. But it does seem there is more to this story.

My girlfriend was sitting in the seat next to me breastfeeding on a plane once. It was very discreet. However the other passengers complained so I stopped.

I don't know what the situation was. I don't pretend to. I can assume that if the plane wasn't 3 hours late in departing this would not be an issue. When do you dictate women stop breastfeeding?

Shoulda took the blanket.

Yeah. I nursed my son from coast to coast, no problemo.

Of course, he was 6 weeks at the time, not 22 months...

..I mean 22 months?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

No. Children can and do breast feed for as long as they would be using a bottle. My own children were only nursing when they awoke and before bed, however, they likely would have wanted to breastfeed if their routine was upset by an airline flight.

Still it is entirely possible to breastfeed a 22 month old discretely. She was flying with her husband. If she was sitting by the window with husband beside her, how could anyone see?

Yes, or pre-packaged it in bottles this one time.......

Mom's don't start weaning little ones off the bottle around a year old, anymore? My granddaughter is 18 months . It's been awhile since she had a bottle.

"You're too good of a mom. Stop spoiling them! ;-)"

Not me!
I weaned 'em young.
But friends of mine used to soothe their babies up to this age with the occasional feeding even though they were eating solid food.
They thought it was good for their child's health - and it usually put them to sleep.

But no...I didn't breastfeed them at this age.

That they exist does not mean they were utilized. The story doesn't say one way or the other.

Besides...the child's head and face cover 90% of it anyway.

Apparently the woman wasn't all that discreet, or this entire episode wouldn't have happened.

I don't see why she had to make a big to-do. Those airline blankets are very light; she could have been gracious and gotten on with it.

When I was nursing my kids, the one thing I absolutely refused to do was take the suggestion to nurse in the restroom. Ick!

That would get an icy, stubborn glare from me.

Nothing to do with breast feeding (I don't think) but I was riding a bus back to south Texas awhile back. A young woman with 3 little kids was too. I don't know why but I felt she might have been a missionary. Anyway, all of the sudden she pulled out this really large thin cloth. I don't know how but it was flexed and she kind of made a dome over all of them. It startled me at first and then I thought it was cute. I guess she didn't want anyone watching them sleep or something. Kind of wished I had one of whatever it was too:')

She had to make a big to do because the object is to make it seem like breast feeding moms are dissed. Which they aren't, at least in my experience. People breast feed in all kinds of places without the least bit of disruption.

But as with everything else, just because you are breast feeding doesn't mean you get to ignore general public decorum. It doesn't give you license to do whatever you want, either even though it is for The Children.

"It's private. It's not sexual but it is good manners to drape."

Exactly. Breast feeding is no excuse to bare a breast for all to see. It is just plain inconsiderate of others around you when it can be done very discreetly. Modesty should always be the rule.
