"Good grief!! Why bother covering up. Many women are wearing tops so low cut that the only thing not showing are the nipples, and then very often, they can be seen through the material"

LOL!
I was just thinking the same thing when I went to the mall last week.
It seemed every girl age 25 or under was wearing a see through plunging shirt while wearing a push-up bra.

No one was kicking them out of the mall and I doubt they would have gotten kicked off the plane either.

This is what breasts are for, the pervs are the ones who somehow see a sexual overtone it it all.

I have no problem with women breastfeeding. I breastfed all four of our kids for at least 9 months. At that point, when they had begun solid foods, I began to wean them to regular milk, juice and water. When they started walking, I figured it was time.

If a woman chooses to breastfeed in the presence of others, she should be willing to at least cover herself somewhat. Even though I'm used it it, I still don't care to see some woman's ta-tas hanging out of her shirt. If the child was 23 months old, I suspect that the nursing was on again, off again, especially if it was an unfamiliar place; the child would have been curious about the new surroundings and looking all around. Maybe the woman thought it was fine to have her boobs hanging out, but I suspect no one else except she and her husband thought so.

She should have either taken the blanket, or provided some covering of her own.

Years ago,I was on a flight from Germany with my daughter. A general's wife was holding up the flight, she was late, so we all had to sit on an airplane, in the heat, for almost an hour. I fed my baby without a blanket, if I had used one she would have cooked to death, it was that hot. If a flight attendant had come up to me and demanded that I use a blanket there would have been one hell of a fight. This mom was way more gracious than I would have been.

I guess she didn't want anyone watching them sleep or something. Kind of wished I had one of whatever it was too:')

That would be good, so when I wake up after a long nap on an airplane with drool running down my face, no one could see me! ;o)

She WAS nursing discretely, plus she was at the window seat, plus her husband was blocking the view from the aisle, plus she was seated in the second to the last row in the back of the plane.

If a woman went into a restaurant with her shirt open and exposed, I doubt many people would be concerned about her "rights" and would be annoyed. What changes when a mom is nursing? They are still breasts and they are private. Blanket or not a mom can feed a baby with modesty or they can be defiant and do what you want, with no concern for others.

I completely understand!
I forgot how hot it gets on a plane when it's been sitting on the ground for so long. The poor kid was probably parched.
Nursing with a blanket made me sweat bullets.

I wasn't recommending it for nursing moms but as you say, thinking if I had one too I could have been a lot more comfortable:')

Who says her shirt was open and exposed?

I'm trying to remember the last time I saw a breastfeeding woman stride through a restaurant with a baby attached to her naked breasts, little feet kicking away. I have however seen a great many women and girls in see through bra tops showing off their surgically enhanced mammary glands. They are actually seated pretty fast in restaurants. Bet they never get thrown off planes. They can be pretty defiant too, with no modesty.

When I breastfed it was impossible to use a blanket.
It made me sweat - it made the baby sweat - we both were a sweaty slippery mess when it was over.

Apparently you are unfamiliar with airplane blankets. Most are thinner than Kleenex.

It still would have made me sweat..especially if the plane had been hot from sitting on the ground for so long.

I think that you need to get a better mental picture of this, the kid was almost two years old, that means walking, talking and chewing. The kid was probably standing on the chair next to his mother when she whipped out her boob for him.

I used to know a woman who used let her kid nurse on the beach, while standing up. The kid would go in the water and run around and every once in awhile run up to his mother and pull down her bathing suit and start nursing.

The plane was three hours late taking off. Put that in your mental picture and blame the mother for her odd behavior.

Why are you assuming the worst about her without reading the other posts here on this thread?
It doesn't sound at all like she was doing what you describe.

I didn't say that. There are some moms that nurse that way though. I'm willing to concede that we don't have all the facts here and if everything is as this mother says then she is owed an apology, big time. Can't we agree though that there are some mothers that aren't concerned with privacy , with nursing but would not expose themselves in a like manner anywhere else?

You know, this sounds Victorian of me, however, I just don't get this breastfeeding in public thing. I think it verges on some sort of subliminal exhibitionism. It's a here I am, I'm a mom, but I'm still sexy, aren't I, with my big boobs poking out, or maybe I'm getting off on other people's reactions to this, or I am very egocentric, and think the world revolves around me and my motherhood, or heaven knows what other machinations are going on in these "moms" minds. It's tacky, pure and simple.

Up until the 1960's, the hippie generation of which, sad to say, I was one of, the baby boomer "me" generation, this breastfeeding in public didn't exist. Women went into bathrooms, did it before leaving home, were extremely discreet in feeding only when absolutely necessary with no other options but in public and covered up, and didn't parade their motherhood and their boobs for all to see. It's just so unrefined, so uncouth, so low brow, so look at me'ish.

It really disgusts me that women have bought the feminist line of flaunt it, it's your "right", it's just part of the anything goes lowering of society's social mores. The idea that this is an issue that women should hang their political hat on is ridiculous and based in the feminist movement of the 60's, not a good place to be coming from.

Knock it off ladies; it's not some symbol of freedom and emancipation for women, rather it is a sign of exhibitionism and and a part of the I don't care whether I'm grossing others out or not in your face (or boob) in this case) attitude. I find it unwomanly, tactless, in poor taste, and a residue effect from the bra-burning feminazis of the 60's. Who in their right mind would want to emulate that philosophy today? Ok, let the arrows fly, but I stand by this as most of us know that's what we really feel about this, but so many are too afraid to state it in public. Most likely out of fear of not being PC enough, they instead let the boobs out in public waiving their wares with impunity.

I can't remember seeing any nursing mother letting both of her boobs just hang out.
Usually when I spot a mom nursing you can't see a thing...the child's head covers everything.

I do - on many occasions - see girls and women hoist their cleavage up to their chins with pushup bras while wearing plunging necklines.
