National boycott of San Francisco. Better yet, boycott the whole friggin state!
Allow me to quote the band Kansas:
Can I tell you something
Got to tell you one thing
If you expect the freedom
That you say is yours
Prove that you deserve it
Help us to preserve it
Or being free will just be
Words and nothing more
And you left out, LA Conservative, the JROTC is VOLUNTARY, no student is forced to attend it, unlike the liberal indoctrination that passes for classroom learning in the public schools.
With "cut and run" the official strategy in the WOT about to be implemented by the Reid/Pelosi Congress we need some cannon fodder. With the surrender that is about to happen in Iraq and the appeasement of Iran and North Korea that will undoubtedly follow, we need a few cities here in the USA that refuse to realize that we are at war with a vicious enemy. We need them to act as cannon fodder for the rest of us.
As surely as I type this the terrorists will come here after we surrender, er, uh, "redeploy" in Iraq. The terrorists are not stupid and they can see the strategic weak points. San Franciso, you just published yet another of your weaknesses for all the world to see. I, for one, will never, ever step foot in that miserable excuse for a cess pool again.
Reap what you sow, San Francisco.
That helps explain this.
Hi guys,
as I said, I don´t agree with the pacifist and unpatriotic arguements of the school board. To me, JROTC is a valuable program that encourages teenagers to serve their nation and consider the classmate next to them a "mate" instead of a potential target.
But you should have read the posts I was responding to. Two FReepers called for a complete stop of federal fundings for SF. That´s unpatriotic and silly, too. Or am I mistaken here?
M.
Federal funds often come with strings attached. I wouldn't have a problem with yanking the strings.
Right - SF gets hit, we tell Kimmy that he missed. Any other place however and NK becomes a parking lot.
So much for pro-choice. JROTC and the military is a godsend for some kids. Too bad San Franciscans just lost a valuable lifeline.
Hi LAC!
Wow... I was going to unload here, but you did a far better job than I ever could. You're absolutely right. This isn't about a "difference of opinion." This is about the blatant denial of a course of education, based on politics and an irrational hatred of the military.
Can you imagine how the left would be howling like stuck pigs had a school board in the mid west decide that other types of curriculum be banned, because the school board disagreed with them? I wonder how many lawyers the left would ship in to "protect the rights of the students?"
Mark
And you miss the point again, Mark - just like your buddy.
My criticism is about your denial of federal fundings for SF, not about the JROTC program.
Are you incapable to comprehend that or are are you just distracting from your silly proposal?
That's an oxymoron.
LMAO!!!!! < :D
That's a clever idea. Military life is a big commune. They do what they're told by the elite, nobody gets rich, free health care, government housing, everyone is assigned a job. Having the military in San Francisco is just a branding problem.
They still do close order drill. But they learn other things too.
The kids in this program almost to the child cherish the experience now. Its not something they have to do. They have to work hard and struggle against all of the crap folks want to hand to them.
They do it for the opportunities that open up in getting College scholarships, they get credit for their training if they do decide to enlist, but the instructors keep recruiters far away from these kids because this is Officer Training, not recruiting.
The path toward Officer is through College ROTC or the Military Academies. Most of the kids go on to their normal lives, with skills on leading and inspiring others. And in the meantime they learn a whole set of appropriate values like Duty, Loyalty, Honor and Courage.
Sad, isn't it? How the world has been turned on its head...
The proposal is far from "silly", bud. Federal funds come with strings attached, as they have for years in our nation's history, so I see no problem with denying federal funds to cities that ban students from participating in JROTC. They'd be getting what they deserve.
And there is nothing unpatriotic in doing so. SF made their choice. The federal government can make its choice too.
So, all Federal funding will be withheld from San Fran schools now, right? I mean if they are not going to allow a Federally supported program like JROTC in schools, then why should school lunches be paid for using Federal Tax dollars?
You just know that the bad guys are laughing over this one.
Glad to hear that ROTC has been improved. Sounds like a much more worthwhile program now. In 1942 we all expected to go directly into the military out of high school so we didn't consider ROTC as leading to any further opportunities.
