Hubby was not exactly a happy camper last year when our friend brought us the deer - it had NOT been field dressed. then we had one of our typical mid-Atlantic November indian summer spells. It had hung for barely 24 hours when he started cutting it up. I spent a bit of money on ice that week, because after he got it into manageable pieces, he had to go to work everyday.
I know I'll do much better this year as I've had some experience and have done a good bit of reading on the butchering for the freezer aspect.
Don't get me wrong, the work is well worth it both in flavor, and ultimate cot per pound.
I'll have to look up the statute, and then check the county ordinances........but as I said, around here no one will know.
Do you think my 170,000 nearest neighbors would have an objection?
Fat in beef breaks down over time, which is why steak restaraunts advertise, "aged beef".
But beef has fat marbled in the meat - so it works.
Deer has the fat in the sleeve, not in the meat. In fact, if you eat nothing but deer, you will get rabbit fever - fat starvation.
Not unless you use bird shot. LOL.
Looks like she went off the high-protein liquid diet.
Amen. I worked for a church near Newark NJ dispensing food during the holiday season and it took them from Christmas until May to get rid of one small room of it.
The drug addicted (um...homeless I mean) of NYC will totally turn you down for food when panhandling for money.
This is like the US agency that does studies on poverty. They always work the numbers up. Otherwise, they don't have a reason to exist. Pathetic. The "poverty rate" in this country doesn't take into account home ownership, car ownership, commodity ownership, or debt. Therefore a single parent with two children working for min wage living in a large house with her mother and having two cars and loads of food and zero debt is "poor" whereas a college grad w/ a $20k year job and $100,000 in student loans and no car nor house is "middle class."
Disgusting.
After Beer, Cigarettes and Lottery tickets, who has money for food?
Not true, I could really go for a bowl of ice cream...
I'm not sharing..........
10% is generally considered the "I met Elvis while I was being anally probed on a spaceship" threshold. 10% of the US population is 30 Million. I don't trust 10% of the respondents to any poll.
You are correct, but that was a court decision.
The court may have 'delivered' the decision, but the decision was made from a place not of this earth....
I'm getting famous in these parts for my "Garden Tea Parties." On my birthday, which falls mid-summer, I invite my girlfriends over and I serve then a light lunch, but everything is made from my garden.
So, we have mint Iced Tea and stuffed Nasturtium or Squash blossoms, salads made from fresh greens, home-grown sprouts and WEIRD stuff like purslane and watercress; stuff they would normally never eat because, Hey...that stuff is growing in my lawn, LOL!
Egg salad sandwiches made from our own eggs on homemade breads, and Dandelion or Raspberry Wine, of course! Fancy hats and gloves are mandatory. :)
The average person, with the right skill set, could pretty much feed themselves off of their own front lawn, though you've got to stop using chemicals on it for a few years. ;)
Again? I never stopped, LOL!
