They are for display only I came across this when preparing the dose this afternoon/evening it was a question asked by a reporter to Laura Bush one year.

Though for display they are made of all edible ingredients but I suppose after being on display for about a month they would be dusty and not really suitable for consumption. Plus also I wonder if they spray them with a coating to protect them that is not suitable to eat.

The one photo I did find was the official White House Holiday Photo

President George W. Bush and Laura Bush pose for their official Christmas portrait in front of the White House Christmas Tree in the Blue Room, Dec. 7, 2003. This year's holiday theme at the White House celebrates children's storybook characters with, "A Season of Stories." More information about the theme and decorations can be viewed at www.whitehouse.gov/holiday/. White House photo by Eric Draper

2005 probably my favourite all things bright and beautiful I loved the fruit and flower displays last year - deocorations from living plants and what wonderful colours

Boxwood Garland and tulips frame the Cross Hall mirrors for the 2005 Holiday season.

Two topiaries of lemon leaves and tangerines stand tall in the State Dining Room
