Darn -- and here I was, hoping the title of the article was literal.
Here's a candidate to present an opposing view -
Professor Bob Carter comments on Al Gore and his hysterical fairytale titled An Inconvenient Truth.
The man is an embarrassment to US science and its many fine practitioners, a lot of whom know (but feel unable to state publicly) that his propaganda crusade is mostly based on junk science, says Cook, from the Marine Geophysical Laboratory at James Cook University, in Australia.
Gores circumstantial arguments are so weak that they are pathetic. It is simply incredible that they, and his film, are commanding public attention.
banning flip-flops?
My G-d, why?
Good for FedWay.... I didn't expect that would take that position.
I imagine it was a safety issue.
Dude - you are about 5+ decades late with that concern...
It's all BS according to real scientists. Gore and his band of save the polar bear nuts are idiots. For the Polar bear nuts, their real agenda is clear, to ban hunting. Gore's agenda is to look sane and take another run at the whitehouse.
Hanna and Cappelen, scientists who have studied these claims of Polar ice melting and rising temps in the Arctic off the coastal southern Greenland from 1958-2001, based on data from eight Danish meteorological Institute stations in coastal and near coastal southern Greenland, as well as the concomitant sea surface temperature (SST) history of the Labrador Sea off southwest Greenland, based on three previously published and subsequently extended SST data sets.
Their analyses revealed that the coastal temperature data showed a cooling of 1.29c over the period of study, while two of the three SST databases also depicted cooling by .44c in one case and .80c in the other. In addition, it was determined that the cooling was significantly inversely correlated with an increased phase of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) over the past few decades.
In an even broader study, based on mean monthly temperature temperatures of 37 Arctic and 7 sub Arctic stations, as well as temperature anomalies of 30 grid boxes from the updated dats sets of Zjones, Pryzbylak, found that: 1) In the arctic, the highest temperatures since the beginning of instrument observation occured clearly in the 1930's. 2)In the 1950's, the temperature was higher than in the last ten years 3) since the mid- 1970's, the annual temperature shows no clear trend 4) The level of temperature in Greenland in the last 10-20 years is simular to that observed in the 19th century
These findings led him to conclude that the meteorological record shows that the observed variations in air temperature in the real Arctic are in many aspects not consistant with the projected climate changes computed by climate models for the enhanced greenhouse effect, because the temperature predictions produced bynumerical climate models significantly differ from those actual observed.
In a study that utilized satellite imagery of the Odden ice tongue (a winter ice cover that occurs in the Greenland sea with a length of about 1300 Km and an aerial coverage of as much as 330,000 square Km) plus surface air temperature data from adjacent Jan Mayen Island, They determined that the ice phenomenon was a relatively smaller feature several decades ago, due to the warmer temperatures that were prevailant at the time. In fact, they report that observational evidence from Jan Mayen Island indicates that temperatures there actually cooled at a rate of 0.15c per decade throughout the prior 75 years.
More recently, in a study of three coastal stations in southern and central Greenland that possess almost uninterupted temperature records between 1950 and 2000, discoveered that summer temperatures, which are most relevant to Greenland ice sheet melt rates, do not show any persistant increase during the last 50 years. In fact, working with the two stations with the longest records (both over a century in length), they determined that coastal Greenlands peak temperatures occurred between 1930 and 1940, and that the subsequent decrease in temperature was so substantial and sustained that then current coastal temperatures were about 1c below normal 1940 values. Furthermore, they note that at the summit of the greenland ice sheet, the summer average temperature has decreased at the rate of 2.2c per decade since the beginning of measurements in 1987.
This sure paints a much different picture than Al Gore does. Gore is a little more than deceptive, he's blatant LIAR.

Whoa... isolated incidents of sanity give me hope, a little bit.
Thanks, Nathan, your post is going in my ammo box to fire at idiot liberals.
May I return the favor -
The worlds premier polar bear expert has stated that the polar bears are in no danger from the media manufactured global warming crisis.
No evidence exists that suggests that both [polar] bears and the conservation systems that regulate them will not adapt and respond to the new conditions, said Dr. Mitch Taylor, polar bear biologist for the government of Nunavut. Polar bears have persisted through many similar climate cycles.
His statement packs a punch in three different ways.
First, the polar bear population is not declining as the eco-fascist liars would have us believe.
Second, the bears, which have been on the earth for hundreds of thousands of years, have adapted to previous climate changes, which, by the way, were not caused by evil man.
And third, it knocks the putrid Marxists off track who want to impose a world-wide socialist system by stealing money from hard working Americans via a hefty carbon tax and redistributing that money to assorted thieves and brutal dictators around the world.
There are 20 significant populations of polar bears around the top of the globe. Of the 13 in Canada, 11 are either stable or increasing in size. "They are not going extinct, or even appear to be affected at present," said Taylor in a story published by the Edmonton (Canada) Journal.
Writes the Edmonton Journal: In Canada, where a decade ago our Arctic had 12,000 bears, Taylor and other bear specialists estimate there are now 15,000 bears, an increase of 25 per cent in just 10 years. Worldwide there are 22,000 to 25,000 polar bears, whereas 50 years ago -- before the first SUV, before Kyoto, before most people had even heard of the global warming theory -- there were just 8,000 to 10,000.
Yet in spite of the evidence, the administration has caved in and will probably list the polar bear as threatened.
The reasons are both political and logical.
Rather than trying to explain the actual science of global warming to Americans whipped into a frenzy by a howling eco-fascist mob of propagandists in the media, its more prudent, at this time, to throw the goosestepping Marxists a bone to shut them up.
