a] Stereotyping aside, Jewish children are rarely allowed to avoid the expectation of higher education - the 'intelligentsia' put communism into power, supported the CPUSA between the wars, and supports socialism today; hence, more Jewish people probably lean left no matter what.
b] Historic Europe set Jews apart from 'conservative' Christianity, that's how ghettos got started; hence, Jews remain leery of any 'conservative' side of Christianity. (Again, no matter what.)
c] FDR was a democrat (in name only).
d] JFK was a democrat although far removed from today's crop.
e] Western Jews have traditionally been the under dog, the outsider, in any socio/political dust up. It's probably reasonable that they'd support a party that gave best lip service to equality and support for the little guy.
f] It's also likely that they see JWB and his supporters as updated redneck bozos.
g] Finally, also probably the more secular western Jews may see Zionism and their forbear's experiences as old history and believe that distancing themselves from holocaust and that nastiness in Warsaw is a sign of progress.
America was still a predominately conservative Christian country, just like it had always been since the pilgrims landed (now referred to as fanatics)
With all these things in place by our will and free consent, these things which liberal Jews spend all their time attacking, we still liberated the Jews and welcomed them in the U.S.A. and the far right wing Christian fundamentalists are still one of Israel's very best friends.

You might find it interesting that the RJC did a poll of Jewish voters, (but all of them were found in two states and one district (NJ, FL, PA 6)) so its not perfect.
Its main findings:
26.4% of Jews voted Republican.
Younger Jewish voters supported Republican candidates in even greater numbers.
Among those under age 55, 30.7% voted Republican, compared to 23.8% of those age 55 and over.
It also found that Jewish men are more inclined to vote Republican (30.6%) than women (22.6%).
And, among those who attend synagogue almost every day, 35.2% voted Republican, those who attend once a week, 31.8% voted Republican, and only 23.1% of "occasional attendees" voted Republican.
Reform Jews voted 23.0% Republican, Conservative 25.2% Republican, and Orthodox 42% Republican.

Mark Levin, who impresses me greatly, Michael Savage, who I like also and listen to a lot, Ben Stein, a very intelligent man, are examples, among others as well, who are Jewish, and are fiercely conservative. They feel somewhat betrayed by the Republican party, as I do, but are on the right nonetheless. Mona Charen is conservative and a brilliant columnist. Unfortunately, they are a minority among the Jews. Liberal Jews have strayed from God and embrace liberalism as their religion, and probably have a golden statue of Bill Clinton that they worship. The sick, diseased, treasonous democrat party is an enemy of Isreal and have this touchy-feely relationship with the Islamofascists who want to kill them all. These democrat fools dont realize that they would be the first to be rounded up; homosexuals, Jews, showbiz celebrities, hollywood movie makers, and yet they cozy up to the enemy. We then are "treated" (not actually the word I had in mind, but Jim doesn't approve of cursing on the boards) to pig-ignorant postings to the effect of "Them thar Jooos, they'd vote fer Hitler, if'n he were a Democrat, hyuck-hyuck-hyuck," and similarly constituted blatherings.
Kiddies: just a wee little bit of historical perspective here, all right? Yeah, absolutely, GWB may well qualify as the single staunchest friend Israel has ever known, White House-wise... but: for way, way too may decades prior to this one, the Republican Party enjoyed an all-too-well deserved reputation as the party of naked and unapologetic anti-semitism; and that's NOT the sort of rep it's going to suddenly "lose," overnight, solely on the strength of GWB's good works alone.
Nixon's numerous weird "issues" with us are a matter of public record. Pat Buchanan -- long a powerful mover and shaker within the party -- was (and still is) even more rabid and foaming. Jews make a point of remembering those who openly and expressly wish them ill, no less than any other group; and some (many, most likely) may NEVER feel entirely comfortable with the party, as a result of such ugliness and hatred in the past.
What you're witnessing, here, is a generational transformation: younger Jews trending more and more conservative, politically, over the last twenty years (and continuing to do so), replacing in prominence (and voting numbers) older Jews, as the latter pass from the scene.
Newsflash: generational changes, by definition, take at least one generation to take effect. Staring impatiently at your wristwatch and muttering "... what's taking then so damned long, anyway?" won't speed up the process one bit; and the slack-jawed nitwiticisms on unfortunate display here (comparing Jews to sheep, dogs, etc.) only serve to retard the process further still. Not at all surprising to me. American liberal Jews are suicidal in the extreme. While they do not profess a hatred of Israel their actions tend to be more anti-Israel and anti-Jewish than any "hate" group I can think of. They support Nazi-style gun bans, a Nazi-style police state, Nazi-style propaganda (Jews own or control over 70% of mass media outlets...just a statistical fact folks, not me being a Nazi okay?), and Nazi-style socialism (government 'partnering' with private industry for the 'common good').

There is an extreme hatred/fear of Christians and Christianity among most American Jews that never really becomes obvious until something or someone Christian threatens to bubble up to the mainstream….That much is fact. Bush (and 140,000 American soldiers, 900+dead), saved the Israeli Army from a "death march" across Jordan and Iraq to Baghdad in an effort to stop Husseins money funding suicide bombers. The only other alternative was to "Nuke" Baghdad, but Damascus, Cairo, Riyadh and Tehran, would have to follow.

I always vote Republican and I can tell you that many, if not most, Orthodox Jews also do. There are exceptions in local races when they believe the DemocRat will do more for them on their issues. I was disgusted by the support Hillary got from some communities in her first Senate bid which looked like a deal to get clemency for some white collar criminals.
I'm a Jewish Republican, and I am much angrier about the tens of millions the Ford Foundation gives away every year to ultra-left wing causes than about what Henry Ford thought about Jews.
