I am cynical. Yes. Period. I can't help but look at laws are being ramrodded through with little to no input from the public. Esp laws that have a leftist slant (rightist as well, but fewer nowadays).
The Cardinal should remind his churches followers that THEY are citizens with the right to NOT vote for the politicians who pass such laws. THAT will get the attention of the politicos.
Why isn't it mob bigotry to say that Catholics have to place children for adoption with homosexual couples, or not at all? The good Cardinal sees it that way. Consider his words, and note the date of 1829!
To me this gay rights stuff is like the French Revolution. Scary.
Just a bit of background on where I'm coming from:
Once when I was in grade school, my sister and I visited my grandparents and they were driving us back home. We were almost there when we were stopped by a crossing guard and a bunch of kids. Grampy inquired, "What are these kids doing here? I thought school was out." We replied from the back seat, "Those are the Catholic kids. They're still in school." My grandfather commented, "Oh, well I guess I don't have to be so careful then." "Oh, Albert!" protested my grandmother. He was joking, you see.
Personal interaction with family members....
But this poll is an inkling...

...and the past stuff on the EU constitution..
Also capital punishement...
... and I liked this quote from this link...
The death penalty in Britain was suspended in 1965 and then finally abolished in 1969 despite strong public support for its retention.

The MPs do regard themselves as "elites", and the population lets them get away with it.
Several family members think we vote on too much stuff here in the US... and we shouldn't since "the politicians know better"....:^)
You need to get busy nearer at home, if you find such execrable. I don't, but that is just my opinion.
"Tolerance is the virtue of men without convictions."
I don't say execrable, but I do find it shocking, and arbitrary. My feeling is that if this can become the norm, anything can become the norm. "The falcon cannot hear the falconer."
God bless Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor.
It's nothing more than the survival of Christianity and the Western Culture, which it gave rise to, that we're talking about here.
In hoc signo vincet!
Bump.
Those who once demanded that we "not impose our views on them" are now imposing their views on us.
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all convictions, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
