Problem solved.

Say what! I was raised in Newkirk just down the road from Ponca City. You are absolutely right! How can they erase a part of a sculpture?

BTW, maybe they will pose the image of the sculpture so it comes out the Pioneer Man. Remember that particularly interesting location on the road that goes around the statue? My friends and I used to drive over to Ponca City with our dates to show them this “pioneer man.”

Let’s choose between a ‘boodless” Pioneer Woman and the infamous Pioneer Man.

"it seems like it's happened at a national level, where it seems like it's totally out of our hands."

I want to comment on this line, but I'd better not.

The image I got from the facial expressions is that she is dragging him to the woodshed and she’s going to wallop him with the book since it was the first thing she grabbed.

Funny...I thought I was the only one who got that impression!

Ah, yes, the Pioneer Man... When we drive into town a couple of times a year from S. 14th Street, it’s a family tradition to remark upon that optical illusion.

"When we drive into town a couple of times a year from S. 14th Street, it’s a family tradition to remark upon that optical illusion.'

Maybe a photograph?

Maybe just some elaboration?

Probably a majority on FR have never in their lives been to Ponca City Oklahoma.

If one drives up 14th street, perpendicular to this side of the statue, at a crucial moment, one can actually see "The Pioneer Man". You see that boy's left forearm...?

Re: above:

According to this morning's Daily Oklahoman:

By Michael McNutt
Capitol Bureau

Oklahoma's commemorative quarter will feature the state's bird and wildflower, the governor said.

Voters preferred by more than a 2-1 margin the scissor-tailed flycatcher and Indian blanket (Gaillardia pulchella) wildflowers, the governor's office said.

Four other designs up for consideration each featured a representation of the "Pioneer Woman” statue in Ponca City. Some Oklahomans were upset that sketches from the U.S. Mint omitted a Bible in the woman's right hand. That now is a moot point.

More than 148,000 votes were cast during a two-week period that ended Friday. About 3,100 were mailed in and the rest were submitted online.

More than half — about 52 percent or nearly 77,000 — voted for the state bird design.

"Oklahomans have spoken, and the results are clear,” Gov. Brad Henry said in a statement.
