Greenhouse gases are a bunch of hot air!
The warming of the Earth causes co2 to be released from the oceans. It's an effect not a cause of warming.
Johnny why is the earth warm? Because it has an atmosphere. Very good. And what warms the Earth? It is warmed by the Sun which is very hot and big. Very good Johnny.

As fun as it might be to dump on the chinese from time to time, we’re still talking a pittance compared to natural fires.
And nowadays, either in the U.S. Or elsewhere, the fires are controlled and put out.

It would be interesting to trace where the Arctic particulates came from, if possible.

Reminds me of the famous difference in arctic behavior by the Canadians and the Americans in WWII. The US forces had a bunch of heavy equipment and would scrap off the ice sheets with it while the Canucks would spread ashes over an ice layer and let the sun melt it and scrap off by hand what they could before adding more ash to the next layer, etc to clear the ice. Never learned which system was faster but one was sure a lot more expensive.

Don’t forget those huge dust storms from Africa. Remember, when that dust hits Florida, the state becomes out of compliance with EPA air quality standards. So, when those big ass African dust particles find their way from the Sahara, to the Arctic, you can be sure they are big enough to heat up the snow and ice.

isotope ratios, my boy, isotope ratios. A panel of ambient measures of isotopes in various minerals can help narrow it down, I’ll bet.

All kinds of interesting feedback cycles that can set up without human involvement.

Guess the scientists were getting wary that the government teat may dry up on the CO
2 issue.
They had to invent another 'crisis' to get the funding.
Of course we know what will be the conclusion, SUVs and the US economy.

RE: "And my guess as to which country puts the most soot in the air is China."
...Let me give you the straight poop about that...
This woman is literally squatting by the roadside, right on the sidewalk at a major intersection in Calcutta, inches from the curb. She is preparing food to give to a goddess, as she does every Tuesday. Her fuel is "cowdung" or the dried cakes made from cow's droppings, which she most likely purchased from a local vendor. This is a primary fuel source for people in less developed countries all over the world. The effect of (such) cooking on the environment is visible in the smoke. With a population of 950 million (in India) the smoke from countless small cooking fires, using dung, coal, sticks/wood, kerosene, or other fuel sources, has a substantial impact on the environment. |

World Briefing | Asia: India: Cooking Fuels Pollution
By ANDREW C. REVKIN (NYT) Most of the sooty pollution that creates a chronic brown plume over India and the Indian Ocean originates from cooking fires in which the fuels are dung or wood, according to an analysis published in the journal Science. This kind of pollution contributes to hundreds of thousands of premature deaths, mainly of women and children, and also alters climate, cooling the surface and warming the atmosphere in ways that can alter patterns of drought and rainfall, experts said. The authors of the study, from the Indian Institute of Technology and the University of California, Los Angeles, said many benefits could result from reducing such emissions by spreading cleaner cooking methods. What....has the temperature at the north pole gone up one whole degree in the last 100 years?
The temperature at the pole has never been above freezing since we have been keeping track.
