The Left “Celebrates Diversity,” but unifying influences such as patriotism, nationalism and the voluntary assimilation of immigrants, do not serve their ultimate goals.

They want One World, not One Country.

I agree that conflict is inevitable when different cultures try to occupy the same place.Yet struggle and conflict is part of life and always has been.
And it is true there is such a thing as natural segregation.I recognize it but am not comfortable with it.I always enjoyed the company of different people, both ethnically and culturally.Yet I was never one to advocate that “whitey was the devil”.
Too many other devils out there not of the Caucasian Persuasion!

Right, integration should never be forced.Yet I grew up going to all white schools in the Fifties and truly think I could have benefitted by at least the presence of a couple of folks who didn’t look like me.
Less cultural shock when thrown out into the real world.

Yep,nothing more aggravating than some fawning liberal coming up to a mixed couple and holding them up as some supreme example of the Way It Should Be.

Excellent statement of the truth!

20 or so years ago when I was a student at Auburn University, the school was sued because they did not have an adequate or “representative” number of blacks enrolled.

We did have a number of black student there. Just not enough in the eyes of the do-gooders.

The REAL reason that that was the case is simple and had nothing to do with segregation or racism:Tuskeegee Institute was about 16 miles down the road and was the choice of many blacks.

But AU still had to waste money defending themselves from charges that they were a segregated institution.

This kind of crap has set race relations in this country back years. People resent the hell out of this kind of BS.

War Eagle. Your right, the continuation of this ratio and quota nonsense perpetuates racial disharmony. However for some, that is exactly their intent.

"...'looks' will be the least of your worries."

There is some truth in most of these posts. My truth is that absent the pushiness and proclamations of the academics and the Jesse Jackson types, people get along just fine and find like-minded people to associate with

As a military wife, we lived in integrated communities and I (blonde, southern) had some black friends, one especially good one. We taught in the same school and socialized; our children played together; our same age little girls spent the nights at her place/my place. However, when we went to a party they gave and we were the only white couple there, we were treated by some to suspicion and rudeness. Same when I signed up to bowl and the only team needing another person was an all black team(all women). Most were nice, but one made rude and snide digs all the time. I considered her a J.Jackson convert.

I always realized that my southernness was suspect as much or more than my skin color, but, in truth, I don't think we southerners are as racist as many Yankees.

My truth is that we in the US have so much natural diversity, we don't need any forced on us by elites. If they would just but out, the melting pot would finally work through peoples' natural gregariousness, willingness to help, and to care..

The idea of Diversity has been ruined. It never struck me as overly bright concept to begin with. It as if one were to say the more unique parts involved in building something the better it will be. The space shuttle is a wonderful example of diversity if this is the true.

The problem that leaves a bad taste in my mouth and mind when it comes to diversity is that it operates under the concept that all differences are strengths and all add something of value to a system. This couldn’t be further from the truth. I value far more an emphasis on those things that among human beings allow us to relate to each other than a cacophony of differences.

Diversity as it is used by the left today is as a way to prevent and discourage rational critical thinking when it comes to behaviors and ideas they wish to promote. As long as you keep people from thinking about the details and gliding along at a fairly high level with the “feel good” idea of diversity one can not get hung up on whether a certain behavior or idea is positive or negative.

It is not surprising that diversity has become a poison even as it has been proposed as a remedy for the ills of racial and other prejudices. Diversity is a quality of a system and is no more inherently good or bad than the homogeneity of a cake. The sad result of the modern catch word culture is that it allows single words like “diversity” to be elevated to a status apart from any substance they may have once had.
So in the dictionary of words granted liberal saint hood “diversity” is now uttered like some arcane tenant of a religion more appropriate for use in describing a 70s disco dance floor than any practical social structure.

“The only time I ever ran into any drama with a black female companion was coming out of the White Horse Lounge on North Claiborne in New Orleans back in 1976 and some of the brothers wanted to “talk shit”.”

I think it has changed since then, at least some. In 1976 we has black people over to our house for Christmas and Thanksgiving...in Louisiana. My buddy owns an Irish inspired pub in Natchez, MS. It is not uncommon to see a few black people in there and they never have a problem. I went to another little bar there this weekend and it was about half and half. This is in cotton country, mind you. Black people are not likely to be “run out” of anywhere.

I wish I could say the same. I, personally, been physically chased out several neighborhoods in my life, in a few different towns and cities. There were no less than 10 people chasing us in Birmingham on new Year’s Day, 2000. All for taking the wrong exit.

I was hanging out with this black girl in college a bit in 1989. We were both Prince fans and I had a copy of “The Black Album” so she would be at my dorm a fair amount. She dug bass players and I am one. Her older brother put a stop to that.

I just think the tide has turned, Riverman. Hopefully equilibrium will be reached. We could probably trade stories all day. You bring the beer. ;)

Absolutely! All that this multiculturalism and diversity has done is to produce a situation that is leading us to a country that shares little in common except geography. That does not make for a strong country.

I am firmly convinced that is what they want. The significance of black leadership is diminished when races get along. The jealousy is palpable.

Activism alternates with escapism, unhappiness with ennui.

The ultimate escapism is the Cult of Global Warming: Forget saving Social Security-Medicare, border security and Islamic terrorism, and other real life issues, let's pour money into schemes to save the planet for the next millenium--even though there is little agreement on causes or solutions.

Tell a Gore sycophant to check his brains at the door on his way back to the Dark Ages.

It amuses me that man is the only species capable of embracing diversity as a goal when every other form of nature opposes it.

Species are meant to dominate their environment. It is not by accident that the dominant species of plant from west of the Alleghenies to the foothills of the Rockies, from Texas to Saskatchewan are grasses. They force out virtually all other species to ensure the survival of their own.

The places where you see the greatest diversity are at the edges of competing environments - the seashore and the edge of the forest come to mind. This is where the conflict is greatest and thus, the greatest competition for resources exists.

So it really doesn't surprise me that the author figured out that the greater the diversity, the greater the conflict as species or subsets of species compete for control of everything within there select environment. Los Angeles is an excellent example of how screwed up things get when 'diversity' is public policy.

20 or so years ago when I was a student at Auburn University, the school was sued because they did not have an adequate or “representative” number of blacks enrolled

OK long story here. I went to a large university in the Northeast. I had a friend (white) who was coming home from a University Function. He was jumped by a number of drunk football players (all black) and was beat up.

The University Newspaper, for reasons known only to themselves, spun the incident as a white-on-black hate crime and my friend as the instigator of the attack. When, even anyone with a shred of common sense could figure out that a single person would need to be a complete fool to pick a fight with a bunch of large, drunk football players. Friend was put on "Administrative Probation" (double-secret? we never found out) which fortunately amounted to a slap on the wrist. Football players kept playing football. My friend graduated OK the next year, and, other than a few cuts and bruises, was no worse for the wear.

The REAL issues started up after the newspaper spun the incident. The Faculty and Staff decided that there was NOT ENOUGH DIVERSITY (read: black people) AT THE CAMPUS. So, they embarked on a 2-year, 100's thousands of $$$ program to bring more diversity to the school. A "Diversity Director" was brought on, "Diversity Advisers" (read: black professors) were advertised, scholarships offered, and an entirely new program of "Afro-American Studies" was kicked off. Interestingly enough, my favorite professor was native Russian, and he was a little miffed that he was never invited to be a "Diversity Adviser", although he truly was a member of the Diversity (not too many Native Russians running around on campus, at least not that I met).

After all this - two years of time, effort, and taxpayer dollars spent - The net increase in African Americans on the campus was three. Not 3%, or 3 Hundred. Three. Hopefully, the faculty felt much, much better about themselves, though.

After living that story, I totally believe yours.

I think you are right about the atmosphere getting more tense and bitter on the black hand side!
Even compared to 1972,when I would walk through places like Desire Project unimpeded-I worked at the local high school in the Ninth Ward-New Orleans was changing by the time I left for good in 1977.Then the crack monster hit the city and it all went to Hell. And its blacks who are by far and away the largest amount of victims as well as perps.
On the West Coast where I live now things are not really so tense. Most blacks here have at least one family member or in-law of another race so the whole Nation of Islam hate whitey mindset really never took root here.
What I find fascinating when discussing race relations is that BOTH whites and blacks have their share of horror stories abouyt being persecuted by the “other”race.A few are lying but most are telling the truth.
