“.........Just telling me to shut up is not a persuasive argument.”

I would never tell anyone to keep their mouth shut, everyone is entitled to an opinion, was just stating that it’s a rule that I generally live by.

You’re choice of news sources are quite left wing, which I guess surprises me for someone that belongs to a right wing conservative forum. The Gurdian and the BBC are more or less communist run affairs, so yes, you will always be getting a biased source.

When i’m not away with my job, I actually live in Britain, i’m Irish but spent most of my childhood and all my adult life in Britain. I socialise with British people, I work for and in turn have British people working for me. My wife and 2 children are British as are my Father and Sisters and their children. My work involves defending the interests and freedom of British people.
Yes, we have our fair share of anti-war factions, but I can assure you that the size of these factions pale in comparison to the movement i’ve seen in the US (BTW, my opinion of Americans isn’t dictated to me by what I read in the papers and media, I actually travel to the US quite regularly).
British people have never been intimidated by potential and real losses of its armed forces. They do get pi**ed when they read of losses but it is generally with the enemy rather than with the government, despite what our papers would like us to believe.

You should come to Britain, maybe you’ll be pleasantly surprised that the majority of the country don’t have the same beliefs as the guardian newspaper and the BBC.....

I’m very impressed with the measured tone of your response and encouraged to learn that there are still some stalwart souls left in Britain, despite the impression we get from typical BBC news reporting and the strangely consistent views from all the members of the arts community who appear regularly here on talk shows. It’s almost as if they fear to be blacklisted if they deviate from the Party line when it comes to blaming Bush for everything from 9/11 to Hurricane Katrina. For such artistic “free spirits”, they certainly know how to parrot each other - which must make their cocktail parties rather boring events.
(By the way, I’m not your typical Yankee “red neck” religious fanatic so beloved by liberal journalists. I’m actually a Canadian red neck fanatic.)

The trouble with Britain is that the pro-war faction form a ‘silent’ majority, and stay just that, ‘silent. Whereas, the liberals shout the loudest, are given more access than the ‘silent’ majority to voice their opinions cause our once great BBC is a liberal cess pit.

Our liberal minority shout at us that we can’t think that all those that bomb us are Muslims, and that they could be any religious denomination, and we just chuckle to ourselves and say “yea, alright, like fu*k it is!!!” cause we know that those who wish to see our way of life changed to Islam are those that bomb us, we’re not that stupid to think that the Greek Orthodox church would want to bomb us to turn us to Islam.

Our media is probably dominated by the liberals but to be honest, most Brits only read the papers to see how their supported sports teams are doing, or to read about Paris Hiltons latest stunt to show she’s ‘a good girl really!’

Our newspapers have lately driven stories on reporting deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan. They think that by doing so, they will turn the opinions of the nation, but it backfires and strengthens the resolve for us to stick there.

I have to own up, my own wife and daughter are massive anti-war fanatics, but that’s only cause their old man and Dad is a soldier that has had to go on several occassions!!!

Have served in Paderborn, Germany with some of the Canadian lads from some Highland regt. great bunch of lads and could keep up drinking with the Brits (unlike the Americans!!!!)

- It’s interesting you should make the above observation because just today a web site that I frequently visit (Lucianne.com) carried a newspaper article from the Sunday Times written by an ex BBC employee in which he speculates on the reasons for the liberal bent to news stories. It might be worth a read. It’s at- http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article2240427.ece

Thanks for the article, very interesting. I hadn’t read it before but it does capture pretty much the media I know and how they are a pole apart from the British public as a whole.
