I have a contact in Basra and he is saying the same thing.
Brits are holed up taking incoming and not responding. Locals think Iran will be taking over when they leave.
No US official goes outside their fortress..etc.

This could be a deliberate strategy to expose traitors, groups hostile to a free Iraq, or Iranian conspirators. Like Iraq was a magnet for Al Qaeda after the war started, Basra will be a magnet for Iranian terrorists.

how can we be ‘not responding’ when we have lost two more fine servicemen KIA in the last two days. These guys were killed performing operations inside JAM territory, so we are still doing the fighting.
