Additional concerns on it’s accuracy. FWIW, My opinion...intentional disinformation.
Thanks for the ping, STAR and the info.
Thank you, jveritas for the insight on this.
You can just feel their fatigue ... I pray for more brave people with the courage to change the face of their country.
How’s your vacation going? Shopping, shopping, shopping? I’ll bet you’re enjoying some well-deserved and enjoyed sips of exotic brew along the way .. ;) Godspeed in your travels, and that you find a vastly more hopeful situation upon your return to the sandbox. God bless you, Allegra, and thank you.
I guess we’ll know when we know then. Thanks.
More and more market indicators seem to be pointing in our direction. The dems backpedaling on their defeatist prognostications is another great indicator.
I'm with you on getting the heck out of there, but only when we've marginalized AQ. This would definitely be another big step in that direction.
If this possibility turns out to be real it will be for one reason only—al Douri knew he was about to be taken down. Even if he cuts some kind of deal I don’t care just so long as it moves the people he was leading to our side.
I suspect any deal struck will include his leaving the country. He’s still hated by many Iraqis and they won’t give up until they kill him. His disappearance down some rat hole of a Saudi or Jordanian prison would be an optimum outcome. But his departure from Iraq is the main goal.
Agree 100%.
I hope this report is true, as it is finally some good news. I would like to think that the administration heard and took heed to the calls of some of us who asked for a more direct(hard-fisted)approach to dealing with the insurgency in order to put an end to it. Now is not the time to go soft, but to increase the pressure being applied to AQ and other holdouts.
Yes, you’re right. The flag I threw up was with the al-Douri story.
Your analysis is a thing of beauty. I hadn’t counted some of these categories, or even thought about those who are, in your words, “vaporized.” But here’s a classic example of what you are talking about: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1884929/posts
There’s a problem here:
“In return, for cooperating in the fight against al-Qaeda, al-Douri has asked for guarantees over his men’s safety and for an end to Iraqi army attacks on his militias. “
HIS militias??? The idea of having a national army is that it is the ONLY army. Local warlords don’t get to have their own militias. This would be a deal-breaker for me.
Having genocidal monsters as friends is not unprecedented, ever hear of Joe Stalin? After WWII, we worked with plenty of former SS men. A group of them even helped start the West German Intelligence Service, with our blessing. Saddam was even on friendly terms with us at one time. Sometimes it is necessary to compromise on principles to achieve a higher goal. After all, life itself is not neat, but extremely messy.
Shhhh...be verry verry quiet. The Dim-complicit media doesn’t want anyone to hear about this!
The only, singular, reason he is saying this is because he knows they are on the verge of total collapse under the surge. Keep it up, men, and don’t pay any attention to al Douri or Sadr except if you have an open shot, take it.
"Uncle Joe" Stalin?
It doesn't feel like the lulls from the past - this feels different.
I pray that we are seeing the beginning of calm and real freedom for Iraq.
:-D
