The American Bird Conservancy numbers kitties-gone-wild at close to 100 million, and claims they kill hundreds of millions of birds.

Let's see, 100,000,000 feral cats descended from kitties introduced by man. 373 known Whooping Cranes left, migratory and indigenous to Texas and Canada.

I don't see that this man did anything wrong - the cat strayed onto property designated for the conservancy of a natural feline prey item. This man was acting as a steward of that property in the best interests of its designated purpose.

Agreed!
Any domestic or feral cat wondering around outdoors and hunting wildlife should get 62 grains of lead.

It wasn't in a house therefore it wasn't a house cat therefore it was a feral cat. Responsible pet owners keep their pets on their property.

According to Texas law, the cat is owned if it is being cared for regardless of whether it has what you would call a "home." The man is facing two years in jail for kshooting the toll booth operator's pet.

Wait ‘til the bird flu hits. Then kitties will be the least of the birders’ worries....

The man is facing two years in jail for kshooting the toll booth operator's pet.

"They'll probably kill a bird," said Mr. Newland. "That's just a cat's instinct. But all I'm doing," he added, "is feeding some homeless orphans."

First the toll both operater admits they aren't his cats when he admits that they are homeless orphans.

Second if  Jim Stevenson feeds birds then couldn't he argue that he was protecting his pet birds ?

“Felony cat murder”??? Only in Texas. I’m suprised they aren’t asking for the death penalty.

If those cats weren’t eating the rare birds, some birds of prey or other predators would.

What is a feral cat? Cats that irresponsible cat owners have let roam or abandoned. People who let their cats roam the neighborhoods are a pet (no pun intended) peeve of mine. I don’t want some darn cat chasing the birds in my yard either. I don’t shoot them but I do run them off.

I like animals but feral cats are no more than a rat in the scheme of life.

You’d rather have a bumper crop of rabid rats, mice etc...?

I was thinking that on the way to church this morning. What is the population of other bird predators like snakes and rats that are controlled by the cat population?

Under Texas law, if he cares for them, they are his.

Are there separate crimes of horse murder and dog murder? Is hamster murder a misdemeanor? What about rats? Is it a crime to kill them? Can the cats be charged with bird murder?

Why, Mr Newland! Where did you ever get that idea?

It's a crime to kill an animal that belongs to someone else. The law defines ownership as caring for the animal. It's really not very complicated.

Does Jim shoot the cat or not shoot the cat?

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer

The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune

Or to take arms against a sea of troubles

And by opposing end them.

So if the toll both collector was feeding rats or snakes, it would be a felony to kill them? How does the bird lover know the feral cats are the toll both collector’s pets?
