He was not a televangelist. He pastored a church

D.James Kennedy made a persuasive, consistent, thoughtful case for Christian civic activism. In the past three decades he was probably the most widely broadcast and influential minister or advocate with that particular focus.

And as I recall, he didn't water-down the gospel when making his civic/political case. His sermons consistently emphasized the call to seek a relationship with God through Christ. American public discourse was made much richer by his participation.

He will be sorely missed.

He was our pastor for 12 years after we left the liberal Episcopal church, and you could always reach him after morning or evening services for personal prayers. One of the greatest!!!

Dr. Kennedy was what I would call a ‘Lion of God’. He had the courage to preach the Word of God as written in the Bible which made him very unpopular with those who espouse the ‘politically correct’ vanilla version interpretations that excuse any and all manner of sinful behavior. He LOVED this country and America will be poorer for his passing.

I had the privilege of visiting Coral Ridge and hearing him preach about 4 or 5 years ago. He served the Lord well.

I am a Catholic but I have long recognized The Rev. Dr. D. James Kennedy as a giant of Christianity and of America. He will be missed and not just by his congregants and co-religionists. May his soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed rest in peace.

Are you standing over his shoulder?

Slander is spoken. Libel is written.

Yes, and such a fighter for Our America. Our Lord called him home. I’ll surely miss him. I’ve always loved watching his programs.

Agree. Why does the article say “controversial?”

You should see the livid hatred for the man at DU. The same when Falwell died. Just take a shower when you return.

Other churches formed during that time have more than 10,000.

Can you name any? Do you even know how many protestant megachurches (over 2000 average attendence) there were in the US in 1990?

Fort Lauderdale gay-rights activist Wayne Besen calls him something else: 'a source of great pain for gays and lesbians, distorting our lives on a national level. The whole `ex-gay' movement we see nationally was jump-started by Coral Ridge Ministries ... Kennedy popularized this idea that has caused a lot of suffering for gay people,'' that homosexuality could be ``prayed away.''

That is the way Miami Herald is told. Dr. Kennedy would invite any homosexual into our church, with the words" We love you, but we do not like your sin."!

There has been so many skirmishes with the gay community. I remember we went to Ft. Lauderdale city hall debated them on the issue of them bashing the boy scouts and they persuaded the liberal commissioners to cut funds for the scouts!!

Soon after a large bunch of guys was picketing outside our church with signs and anti-church slogans on Federal Highway. Suddenly from nowhere came a couple hundreds of motor-bikers cruising up and down and drowned out their chantings. It was a sight I never forget, because the guy's demonstration failed totally when the biker would wren up their bikes!!!

After reading this derision-dripping, scornful obit in the Lib-secular-humanist Miami Herald, I must say Dr. Kennedy sure annoyed all the right people ;)

Yes he did! :)

Everyone who believes we should abandon our long held Judeo-Christian values is considered “controversial” by the media.
