I hope and pray he does well. If nominated, I think his selection of a running mate will be especially scrutinized.

**Thanks to improvements in treatment, patients are surviving longer than they used to. The five-year expected survival rate of 63 percent is up from 48 percent 30 years ago. **

What they are doing with cancer these days IS totally amazing, isn’t it?

I just love the people who report this stuff from liberal rags. I’m sure they’ve got Thompson’s and the nation’s best interest at heart.

What about Hillary’s cankles and how they place additional burden on the antifreeze compressor known as her heart?

I see Mrs. Clinton’s affliction as much more damaging to the USA.

The more I look at him, the more I don’t see a two-term President. Dare I say less than a one-termer. We have to be ready for this.

This is fine as far as plain survival, but the job he’s trying for is very hard and very stressful. Presidents really do have to be healthy.

Some seem to breeze through it, like Clinton or Reagan, others it ages. Bush is looking like an old man now.

The Republican field looks like it may suffer from physical liabilities. Giuliani had cancer and McCain not only is rather old for the job, but seems to be acting old.

From Medical News; By Mark Bloom, Editor-in-Chief, MedPage Today - April 11, 2007:

"Thompson was treated with radiation and rituximab (Rituxan). Since then, Dr. Cheson said, non-invasive scans have found no evidence of disease in Thompson, and he is asymptomatic.

Nodal marginal zone lymphomas account for only 1% to 3% of all NHLs. "Some lymphomas are very aggressive, but people with slow-growing types, like Senator Thompson's, more often die from natural causes associated with old age, rather than from the disease,'' Dr. Cheson said. "

“Thompson’s illness is slow, serious”

My God the negative stories are practically writing themselves these days aren’t they?

Remember how desperate we all were only a couple of weeks ago, we need to keep out Giuliani, Romney and McCain.

Electing Thompson guarantees that goal and gives us a good conservative.

Thompson's cancer was detected in 2004, as a lump in his neck. It later spread to other areas. His doctor prescribed a new drug, Rituxan, which drove the disease into remission.

Rituxan isn't really new. It's been around since ~ 1997. There are followups to this in development which will probably show up in the next 5 years and be even more effective.

can be well managed with drugs and needn't interfere with normal activities.

If this is the case, why are they making such a big deal about it?

TO ARTICLE:

I sense (not just in this article, but in many more): some strange tropism to despair, moaning, and hopelessness — like it is a great thing to expire with one long pathetic, melodramatic heave. And so, many petulant “we don’t have a perfect hero yet” whines - go up at regular intervals... .. AND: “Let me be the first to say what the ‘realy bad news’ is.... sniff, sniff, choke, choke!

I am disgusted with what I perceive as severe narcissism in supposedly thinking ‘conservative’ venues.

YUK !

Excuse me .. but the “likely to return in 2-5 years” is the same diagnosis they give to everybody. But I believe Fred has already passed several years with no recurrence.

The dems are desperate and they will say anything to try to discourage people on Fred - BUT YOU DON’T HEAR THEM SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT McCAIN - AND HE LOOKS AWFUL!!

My friend was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lyphoma 25 years ago, and he’s still alive, albeit he has heart failure because the chemo ruined his heart.

Ah yes, Thompson is not FIT for the Presidency, says the liberal rag. Liberal cancer victims get sympathy and admiration. Conservative cancer victims get shunned.

My dad was diagnosed with Non-Hogkins Lymphoma, diffuse type. Not a good thing. This was in 1977. He passed away in 1996 from complications of a massive heart attack. His Lymphoma had converted to a very aggressive form but he was 75, he had lost most of his capabilities and was ready to go. Fred could live a very long time, we just can’t predict.
