I don’t think the council has to worry much about turning off the lights, as I don’t think they have ever had one on amongst the lot of them.

asks Angelenos to simultaneously go dark between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, as San Franciscans do the same Oh, and lock up your guns and keep the ammunition in a seperate box. You know, it's so hard to tell a burglar from a family member when it's all dark and stuff.
To: castlebrew
BTW, is it okay to charge our electric cars during that hour?
To: castlebrew
Gee... isn’t there somewhere you can send some money to purchase a “lights offset” so you can keep your lights on without feeling guilty?

Reminds me of the comedian, I can't remember who - Bill Cosby or Bob Newhart - or someone like that. He said whenever he visits his grown children at their house, he walks around the house and turns on every light.Sounds like Cosby's sardonic humor.

I used a profanity. I won't repeat it here because I know doing so would get me banned but I'll repeat the rest of my response: its none of the government's business if I keep my lights on at home.

Well......
This is a completely harmless thing that makes all sorts of people FEEEEEEEEL like they, personally, are saving the planet.
What scares me is that mommy government will think it's a great idea and make it into a mandate. The blackout police (from WWII) are coming back around.

At the original event in Sydney, Australia, in March, 2.2 million people cut the lights, causing a 10% drop in electricity use. The so-called Earth Hour reduced 25 tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to taking nearly 49,000 cars off the road for 60 minutes, organizers said.HELP!!! How does one turning out his lights reduce any CO2??? The power company burns fuel to generate your power regardless of your power switch position. The electrons are in the distribution lines regardless of whether you use them. Your consumption goes down (along with your costs) but the power generation costs (fuel, CO2, etc.) remain the same, don't they??? WHAT AM I MISSING?

The only thing you are missing is the complete and utter stupidity of the LA Counsel. I mean the UTTER STUPIDITY. You can actually see it stick to your shoes when you walk into the meeting.
I'm all for the first idea. Let's turn on every light we got. This is ridiculous political agenda fluff.

In protest of their trying to foist fluorescent bulbs on everyone, I'm going to turn ON every light and every piece of equipment that I own! Whether I need it or not, it's all going ON. < :P

Should read:
"This is the Left coast of California were talking about, while mid to low 60s is considered chilly for us we can over come this cold wave by lighting the fireplace. For us folks here in the hinterland of Nor Cal, it gets quite cold; into the single digits to near 40 below zero.

I think it would be better to just ignore this feel-good, meaningless gesture, and live your life as normal, like I do with most liberal gestures. Whatever! We had to turn our lights off? Sorry, did’nt hear about it, I was busy doing other things.
Reminds me of the Carter days tho, and him telling us to turn down our thermostats. Not a good sign, if we’re going back to that garbage.
Want to save energy? Make all the politicians stay home more, and not use planes, suvs, limos, state buildings, and powering dual homes in two states.
Oh, wait, I forgot, they’re the priviledged class. My bad.
It’s all meaningless in the face of the Fed doing zilch to cut spending and THEIR power usage. Want a meaningful gesture? Turn off Pelosi’s office for a month.
Until then, whatever. I pay for my power, and as long as that’s legal, I’ll not change my lifestyle for meaningless liberal gestures.
