She would be an abject disaster, that is for sure.

But hey, she can maybe get a Nobel Peace Prize out of it, or at least arrange one for her boss to get in tandem with Kim Jong il. I next expect her to be playing a piano concerto up at the Mansudae People's Cultural Palace in P'yang. What quislings. What milquetoast appeasers.

There has absolutely got to be some kind of drug they slip into the building water supply down at Foggy Faggy Bottom.

The correction of the typo reveals the source of the problems at the State Department.

That, or Communist moles--they tend to recruit from elite liberal colleges.

Cheers!

“Umm wrong. The first thing Bush said was No. They he explained what the process was. But as usual the BDS Freepers simply ignore all factual reality to find the next thing to squeal at Bush about.”

BS I remember the talk.

Easy to say wrong. Not so easy to back it up.

“Things are REALLY rotten in Washington these days. Why dont more Freepers and conservatives and patriots raise a STINK?????’”

Even worse, why do bootlickers like mnjohnnie chastize those who do, and defend the de-testicularization of the ‘bush doctrine’?

This story is U.S. State Department disinformation. They, the permanent government at the State Department and with idiot Condi's blessing, hope to persuade their Arab and Muslim friends that Israel acted 100% on its own.

It is possible that someone at DOD "provided" intelligence and assistance to Israel while letting DOS blissfully go about their merry way negotiating and finger wagging.

The flip side is that even a lot of State Dept “successes” are really long term failures. They love to get the agreements signed, no matter how odious. Why? Because its a great photo op, gives the illusion of progress, and earns all involved promotions. Politicians love it too—it lets them declare victory, get good headlines, and get re-elected [or a “legacy”]. The problem is that many agreements are meaningless or make the problem worse. Clinton’s North Korea deal was a textbook example, but there are many others (in both parties). A more recent one was the ceasefire in the Israeli-Lebanese conflict. It solved almost nothing and only guarantees a more destructive part-deux.

Its really sad. I think this country used to care about really solving problems, but not all we care about is spin (at least, most of us do). The trend started under Reagan with the gawd-awful Immigration Reform Bill of ‘86 and gots lots worse under Clinton—who elevated spin to an art form. I wouldn’t give a squirt of piss for the current generation of political leaders in both parties. And, BTW—that includes Bush. Dubya’s great sin is that he talks the talk, and then does the exact opposite in many cases.

Many years ago I heard a story about an Israeli spy who worked with the Syrians. He told the Syrians that the best way to hide their military equipment and soldiers when staging them against the Israelis was to plant orange groves. This way the trees would shield the Syrians from Israeli overflights.

He then reported back to the Israelis to bomb the groves because that is where the Syrians would be staging their troops and equipment.

I guess the point to this story is the Israelis know what is going on in the middle east. They have no choice but to know and have the best intel, period.

The Bush Doctrine is in a shamble

You go to war with the Democratic opposition you have, not the one you want.

In early July the Israelis presented the United States with satellite imagery that they said showed a nuclear facility in Syria. One U.S. official told ABC's Martha Raddatz the material was "jaw dropping" because it raised questions as to why U.S. intelligence had not previously picked up on the facility.

The only thing that would've been "jaw-dropping" is U.S. intel actually picking up the facility. The Mossad getting the job done is par for the course.

Officials said that the facility had likely been there for months if not years.

If we can't even find a nuke facility that had been in the same place for years how does anyone think we could've tracked the movement of Saddam's WMDs?

Between July and September, weeks of high-level talks took place. The Israelis wanted to destroy the facility immediately, and had some support from the American intelligence community that had managed to miss this development. However, Condoleezza Rice and others did not. They wanted to "confront" the Syrians first

The Arabists (including Condi, btw) in Foggy Bottom strike again! I suspect they were concerned about an Israeli strike "hurting the peace process" or some other ridiculous fantasy.

The Israelis, who actually originated the "Bush doctrine" decades ago, appear to be the only nation still using it.

The U.S. used if for about a month or two.

Israel, more worried about the consequences of a nuclear Syria -- something that should worry us as well -- simply ignored Washington after weeks of argument and acted in its own self-interest.

Big props to someone to whom I never thought I'd give any -- Ehud Olmert.

Yes, I agree. It was a joint op...no doubt. Sounds like this source hates Bush and his administration. The toughness of this whole op appears to be in line with what we’ve seen for yrs with this administration.

Yet another reason for President Thompson to appoint Ambassador John Bolton Secretary of State and Congressman Duncan Hunter as Secretary of Defense.

"Instead he went into a long spiel about being on "the right track" with Condi Rice working with our European allies to negotiate, and going to the UN if that didn't work, yada, yada, yada. It was obvious right then the adminstration is going to do nothing and hope the Iranians don't get nukes until after they leave office."

Oh, I think GW and Condi have one thing for public consumption and another for secret deliberations with our allies.

"The US opposed the raid up to the moment it occurred, afraid of destabilizing the region. Israel, more worried about the consequences of a nuclear Syria -- something that should worry us as well -- simply ignored Washington after weeks of argument and acted in its own self-interest."

Wanna bet that behind closed doors the Israelis were assisted by the US and had approval to do some Western Civ bidding? When was the last time anyone heard of an Israeli spyplane or spy-satellite program?

GW and Rice are not pussycats. Ask the Taliban, al Qaeda, Sadaam Obama Hussein.

"My God we have a soccer mom has our SoS! Someone nominate her to the PTA instead of public office."

Those two statements both presume that the subject of discussion has had sexual relations with a male(s). I believe that that is a far stretch with not a scintilla of actual evidence to back it up.

I suggest the "unnamed" source for this claim is either rabidly ignorant, lying or simply misinformed.

Or providing cover.

The most plausible explanation is:

a. We were in it with the Israelis, all the way.

b. But are spreading this kind of disinfo so as to establish "plausible deniability", enabling us to continue working with the Gulf States, e.g. -- who would experience internal difficulties if we were seen to be working with Israel.

Thanks for the ping ... the real story is that Israel shutdown the Syrian Air Defense System, just purchased from Russia.

“He then reported back to the Israelis to bomb the groves because that is where the Syrians would be staging their troops and equipment.”

______________________________________________________________

That may be true, I myself recall a History Channel walking tour of the Golan where they point to the clumps of trees and say the Syrians planted the trees round their positions during the years pre-67’ simply to give themselves a little shade, utterly oblivious as to how that would stand out when viewed from a distance.
