I received this e-mail of a piece by Don Feder on our demographic demise. I think it is necessary reading as we are not too far behind.

This is an interesting subject to me.
On one hand, I agree with it.
On the other hand, the people who ARE having children at the highest concentrations are people who we, as fans of Western Civilization, feel should NOT be having kids.
The people who should, aren’t. The Muslimification and the Povertification of the world is what we are seeing and it concerns me.
Now, before this turns into a “ban birth control” thread, I don’t advocate that as a solution, either...because unwanted children of single mothers tend NOT to become productive members of society (not really true if born to married parents.) In our case we’d find most of these to be unmarried mothers. I’m NOT trashing single parents as I know some great ones, I’m just saying that, in general, kids in single-parent households do not fare as well.

We are the victims of our own selfishness and epicurean habits. The true weapon of mass destruction is the womb and always has been. Those who reproduce at the end of the day win. Those who don't, well, they join the dinosaurs.

Interesting topic; one resolution to this problem as illustrated by another author is that Europe is headed for civil war. Societies under stress breed!

Don Feder and Steve Ozment are two of my favorite people.
I saw Don speak at a pro-family, anti queer marriage, rally on Boston Common he is powerful. I probably have six or eight books by Ozment on the Reformation, an outstanding author and historian.

The title of this article is "How to Take the Chill Out of Demographic Winter".
There were pages of stastics for countries all over the world, but DID HE EVER PROVIDE AN ANSWER? I didn't see it.
To: willgolfforfood
I think the answer is pretty much obvious. It is mainly to reproduce. Funny, that in this day and age we need incentives to do so.

So the article was written to those age 30 and under?
To: willgolfforfood
Not necessarily, males are capable of reproduction until they die.

Mark Steyn was the first to broach the subject. A civilization without offspring is a civilization headed for extinction. There is a clear divide between those believe in God and those who reject Him. Those who believe in God believe in the future. Those who reject Him live for the present. Now who do you think leaves behind something of significance for the future? It brings to mind the old cliche "our children are our future." Its more than a cliche, for our children are a true treasure, a form of civilizational immortality. Demographic winter is not good for ourselves or for what will follow after us. The question is what are we going to do about it. If we do not do anything, there is no future to speak of. The hour is late.

His answer was implicit in his statement,
The ultimate answer to demographic winter -- if there is one -- is contained in this room and in this building -- and in churches, chapels, cathedrals and synagogues around the world. For a visual picture of this, check out your nearest Christian homeschooling convention sometime - loved children who are being invested in, and plenty of them (yet still not enough to replace the growing shortage).
Every year when I give a talk on history and reach the Black Death I pause to remind the college-age listeners that abortion has been the Black Death of their generation ... and look what that did to history.
So the article was written to those age 30 and under?
Yes and no. You know, those over 30 have kids too (sometimes by surprise). An esteemed academic friend of mine who knows well the demographic issues at stake congratulated us on our suprise offspring, pointing out that we were "helping to save the West". More importantly, those who are older have to help set the tone, maybe to the point of helping financially.

In Israel orthodox Jews are having large families, secular Jews are having few if any. In this country it’s the same story, in one or two generations, there will be no secular Jews remaining. Only a powerful faith can cause people to swim against the tide of modernity (affluence, technology and ‘liberation’).

In the end, liberals and atheists are doomed to extinction. What you hear now is the death rattle of obsolete ideologies.

Excellent article. Thanks for posting.
Actually, I thought the movie “Children of Men” was pretty good and worth seeing, despite the violence and the ubiquitous use of the “F” word”. It is very dark, but life affirming. I haven’t read the novel, but as usually is the case, would assume that it is better than the movie.
Another movie that is related to this issue but portrays it in a more humorous vein is “Idiocracy”, a delightful Mike Judge film. Imagine a future populated by the guests of the Jerry Springer show and you will get the idea of what happens when the people who shouldn’t be having children procreate a lot while the people who should be having a lot, don’t.
