FWIW, There are about 500+ FReepers that use their computers to search for a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease.

Called Folding@home, it runs in the background (like a screen saver) and crunches the math behind protein folding. Serious stuff, and seriously hard to do.

There are over 260,000 systems at any one time, from PCs to Macs to PS3s, that run F@H.
