Her mother and father fled Jaffa in May, 1948, thinking they would return in a few days or weeks. But, instead, the cruel fate of history determined that they would be refugees for more than 40 years—first in Libya, then in Beirut, then in Athens, and finally in America, where they have found a home and where they are citizens.

Don't bother asking why they didn't come back to Israel or why they couldn't live peacefully in Libya or Beirut. Rather, stay ignorant of history because being informed doesn't suit your purposes.

Burns is just another State Dept Arab loving hack with, we now discover, a Palestinian-Arab in his family. Any wonder why and where his misguided sympathies are?

I had the privilege of taking a class from noted military strategist Edward Luttwak about 25 years ago. One of the first things that he ever told us - only partially kidding - was that the very best thing that President Reagan could do to advance the interests of the US would be to:

1) Order the Army Corps of Engineers to dig a large tunnel with its terminus under Foggy Bottom;

2) Have the ACE enlarge the terminus of the tunnel;

3) Have the ACE fill the terminus with high explosives;

4) Fill the front portion of the tunnel with concrete; and

5) To detonate the explosives at such a time as to maximize the number of State Dept. employees present at the time.

I have few doubts that he wasn’t really kidding, and fewer over the years that he was right. That being said, OF COURSE, I am not advocating any such actions. I would hope that the next President marginalizes State by ignoring it or - better yet - by doing the opposite of what it career anti-American staff recommend.
