Specifically, it is done to make the girls more marriagable.
Please, the people who generally practice this act are Sololies and some souhtern Egyptians — and animists (Pagans)in sub-saharan Africa. This is not something Arabic or Persian Muslims practice or Asians.
I call BS on this article. If “cutting” posed a lethal risk to these girls then Coroner records would show it. And exactly how would 7-15 year old scar tissue on the outside of woman’s genitals caused complication during childbirth?
Also note that is only the women, who have undergone the procedure themselves as children, that are performing this procedure on their daughters.
Just like MGM (Male Genital Mutilation) or circumcision western medicine needs to step in and come up with a safe, sane procedure to limit any significant harm to the girls while still satisfying the cultural wishes of the parents.
“...a barbaric act of ritualised cruelty ...”
Do we all agree that this description also applies to male circumcision?
And that makes it ok? Puh-lease.
The Religion of Peace is a cancer.
“And exactly how would 7-15 year old scar tissue on the outside of womans genitals caused complication during childbirth?”
Simple question, simple answer......scar tissue is not elastic.
Well, sure if a doctor is so incompetent he snips penis off along with skin.
“...western medicine needs to step in and come up with a safe, sane procedure to limit any significant harm to the girls while still satisfying the cultural wishes of the parents.”
So it is only the crudeness of the procedure you find objectionable? Do the results and underlying motivation not matter?
why on earth would anyone want to lop off the most endearing part of a woman
that is sick.......and cruel as hell...bothers me much more than dog fighting
most men ...at least non wussie meteros anyhow...want to make them more sexual not less
you can get in big trouble expounding on that here
But it IS part of the penis that is cut away during male circumcision.
“...most endearing part of a woman.”
And all this time I thought it was the ucipital mapillary.
It’s bad enough giving birth through a vagina. Giving birth through scar tissue with no stretch whatsoever will guarantee horrendous tears.
Each labia is cut off, then the two sides are sewn together with a small opening left to make a smaller ‘hole’. This is torn apart to give birth. After having a baby, many husbands insist on sewing this back the way it was so the women can go through it again. Remember, not a lot of these women give birth in modern American style hospitals with pain medicine.
Not to mention urinary tract infections, fistulas, and for the baby, possible brain damage or death if passage through the birth canal is slowed too much.
They shouldn't be. The proper response in such cases is, "Your 'culture' involves mutilating innocent children. That is backwards, ignorant, savage, and subhuman. It is time for said practice to stop existing. You can join civilized humanity or return to your third-world hellhole. But if you try to bring your third-world hellhole 'customs' to a real country, you will go to prison and live in a cage, as is proper for animals."
No one would ever dare say that, of course. But we need to get past the stupid, small idea that all cultures and practices must be equal. Some are just fine, while others are primitive and evil and need to be eliminated (pinning children down to lop off their body parts with a rusty razor blade is a good indicator of the latter). People who have primitive, evil cultural traditions need to be informed honestly of that fact so they can choose whether to reject those traditions or to leave civilization.
What do you think I said?
What I did say is written and can be reviewed at leisure.
It didn’t take too long before I found that this tradition had Islamic roots. Gee, I was really surprised at that </sarcasm>
LOL - you’re joking right?
