I saw it already, but thanks for the ping!
Freds supporters are largely idealogues. That is, they support him because of his ideas, not because of his personality. I don't think he'll endorse McCain even if he drops out soon. I don't think, even if he does, it'll make a huge difference. I won't support McCain because my choice of candidate by default decided to kick his support to him. I suspect most Fredheads (should he exit the race) will drift towards Romney with a tired limp and a pinched nose.
When people started to hear him speak at the the Iowa debates.
This might be especially effective if McCain lets Huck get out there and stump like a human life and defense of marriage amendments are part of the unspoken platform. McCain can distance himself from it for the moderates and pat Mike on the head and send him to the next prayer breakfast.
I was looking for more of a date. But thanks for the analysis.
Actually, you are correct. Huckabee surged before he hired Rollins. I was incorrect. My apologies. Huckabee had an almost two-to-one lead over Romney as of 12/7 and did not bring on Rollins until 12/15 or so.
When Governor Huckabee left office last January, he had turned the $200 million state budget shortfall left by his Democrat predecessor into an $844 million surplus allowing his successor to follow Governor Huckabees lead to begin the elimination of the state sales tax on food.
That is too rich!

A McCain/Huckabee ticket... I would never vote for it in a million years. Never.
McCain is wide open. If Fred has the testicular fortitude, he could pulp him.
He will never, ever get that spot.
He could walk on water tomorrow and hillary would snub him.
Nobody, and I mean nobody, comes to the clinton party without bearing a gift, and that gift has to be the winning of a state that Bush won.
come election time, this little obama thing will be long forgotten, and obama will be endorsing hillary to try to save some clout for the future.
The dems have the black vote sewed up better than the old slave owners, and thats the way that it is.
Hillary will pick someone who can deliver Ohio, a SW, or possibly a Mid West state.
>I suspect most Fredheads (should he exit the race) will drift towards Romney
I suspect that you are absolutely correct. Good post.
Yea, I know. The question is, how many republicans would stay home, and how many moderates could they snag? If the right wing basically sits out, can McCain/Huck beat the DEMs. It comes down to victory in the WOT versus DEFEAT.
Come on Fred, make your move!
I think the second choice has to be Romney.
Chard, Fred, chard!
I do believe that I would actually vote for hillary! before I voted for the 2 men most likely to end the Republican party in my lifetime.
But don’t worry. Should that come to pass, I will not be voting at all.
The rest of the country will take care of voting the clintons back into office in the biggest landslide since Reagan.
Not me. I'd put what's best for the country ahead of what's best for the party, and make a choice. To me, the war issue alone clarifies the choice sufficiently. But that's a discussion for another day.
Two months ago, people were espousing an identical theory with Huckabee playing the role of stalking horse for Rudy Giuliani.
Good to see I'm not the only one. I'd rather have four year of the democrats' worst than give this party to the McCain wing.
