I agree.

Weird how Cindy stayed by his side like a nurse making sure the poor guy would not fall. I saw her recently help McCain off the airplane. Her smiling was also odd and heavy makeup more suited for a cocktail waitress.

There is a buzz about how the meeting ended and they left. I am not sure what that is about since I did not see it but just clips.

McCain has to create the backlash basically by proclaiming “an honorable man has been dishonored”. He needs to trade on his honest reputation and make them pay for assailing it, before they ruin it.

>>In a twist, however, there were early signs that the brouhaha might actually help McCain solidify the GOP base. <<

Psychology is an interesting thing. When I first digested this story I told my wife this is the sort of thing that just may make me actually go to the polls and vote for him.

But I still won’t.

I find it interesting that it had that initial impact on me though.

I understand that. But while McCain initiates it, the assumption is that the public becomes the backlash against the media. I’m just saying that I doubt the NYTimes is worried. Conservatives already don’t trust them. Liberals don’t care so long as the newspaper remains devoted to their causes. The liberals will probably give the story writers an award. That’s how they operate.

NYT is not the real objective, they are a lost cause. The objective is public opinion among conservatives and swing voters. The objective is always swaying voters.

I could not believe he said it. Makes me think there is more of the story to come. While there was not much to NYT article, his attempt to defend himself was pathetic.

McCain appears in poor health and lacking in vigor. I saw Cindy help him off the plane. He speaks as if about to take a nap. He looks (and moves) much older than his years.

It changes the media focus to ANYTHING but Hillary!’s free fall in the polls. Period.

My take on the whole thing is....and if you have ever spent much time in D.C.....women are available...for a price. Most men can relate to having lust in their hearts for new conquests. Alpha males are particularly prone to that syndrome...regardless of how “hot” their wives are.

Men who have been Military Pilots, who are usually “alpha males” are usually prime time candidates for that syndrome...but as most cross-country tales ...more a figment of the imagination than reality...

For the uninitiated....he probably thought about a “poke”..but it didn’t happen....and if it did.....who give a rat’s a$$?

Yep, and McCain’s wife is right at his side to make sure he has his meds and doesn’t trip. Bill is at Hillary’s side to keep her from breaking down, help her with questions, and maybe to meet babes. Weak persons are running for presidents, none that I can vote for.

You should see all the stories on web sites like the Daily KOS about Cindy McCain’s drug problem.

It’s ironic that the lobbyist problem was twisted to cause a problem for McCain with the evangelicals because McCain manipulated the evangelicals to take down Mitt Romney. The problem with the lobbyist had nothing to do with romance and everything to do campaign donations and quid pro quos.

But back to the evangelicals. All the efforts to destroy Romney’s over religion and abortion were spear headed through a PAC which was financed by a close friend of John McCain. McCain knew from experience that the evangelicals could be a problem for him, so he stirred them up against his biggest competition. Who knows, they could have been behind the personal attacks on Giuliani, too. The money man was Carl Lindner, a member of the Keating 5. Huckabee kept declaring that he had nothing to do with attack ads and had asked the group to stop them, but they refused. No one believed him. It was true, it was John McCain’s campaign that was behind the attacks. I think this why Huckabee refuses to get out of the campaign, he realizes that he was used.

the “story” has the marks of such sophomoric slander that it would probably help him by mocking its proponents.

They started now because it's clear McCain has the Republican nomination locked up now. They will coming out with one thing after another, tearing him down, from now until the election is decided, and if he wins, for four more years past that. They held off just long enough to ensure that he wasn't taken out while a decent candidate still had a chance.

McCain has just gone from being the friend of the leftist media, to being the goat. Maybe George W. Bush will finally get some peace and quiet ;).

Ancient history, and they still portray him as a "War Hero." How many 'friendly' deaths can a hero cause and still be a hero?
