What comes next is they are going to continue to knock us off one at a time until practically everyone in this country has some sort of criminal record.

Not everyone, but pretty much everyone in the private sector. Government bureaucracies take care of their own. I'll wager most of the people you find who are in favor of more government control are career bureaucrats.
