Today it is MADD, tomorrow it is GLADD or PFLAG talking about a student who was “murdered”. Next week it is the Gore-ons telling of a student who drown due to higher tides because of man made global warming. And next month Earth First talking about some kid who got run over by an SUV.

The founding mother of MADD has denounced their neo-prohibitionist agenda.

But don’t they take it a lot of money just through the whole fundraising operation to keep the fund raising operation going?

I realize that they are kids.
But 16 and 17 year old kids.
I was serving in the Armed Forces during war time at 18
It amazes me that they were so ignorant or stupid to fall for such a silly attempt.
A Goverment Offical reading an eulogy? Placing a Rose on the seat? Come on. Even a 8th grader should know that is never going to happen.......
It is scary how gullible the Government School educated children are...........
I guess when you become so used to being indoctrinated that you fall for anything which seems to be the purpose of the Goverment Schools these days.............

I wish we could but then that would make the average 18 year old unemployable.

For a bunch of mothers, MADD is apparently disconnected from the psychology of the average 18 year old. Making something forbidden is going to make it ever so much more attractive.

Wonder when Code Pink and Democrat Congressmen or members of City Councils that have passed resolutions condemning “the war” are going to demand to be able to pull this stunt to warn student against joining the US military.

It is not okay to deceive people, this mental manipulation. Mental stress affects the body severely.

if it makes even one student think twice before getting behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated, it is worth the price,

Typical liberal mantra........."if it would save only one life wouldn't it be be worth it?"

Is it okay to lie to teach a lesson? Is it necessary?

This deception should not be allowed. Students are considered a vulnerable population by review boards. The high school may get sued over this stunt. If I were a parent of a student in the school, I would complain loudly.

In contrast, research review boards would never allow such deception in a research project. Any professor performing a stunt like this would be fired.

I went to high school in Brussels, Belgium in the late 70’s where the drinking age was a very cloudy line dictated by the parents and some public establishments. It wasn't a big deal for young adults/teens to be around alcohol at home, social functions, or in restaurants. No pressure to be cool, sneaky or abusive. The driving age was 18. The public transportation shut down at midnight. I learned how to imbibe in adult beverages and get myself home before taking on the responsibilities of driving. I think we have it backward in this country.
Making alcohol taboo and horrific to our young adults while at the time living in a culture where alcohol is an undeniable part of our social fabric and history is unproductive at best. Where it's not big deal, it's not a big problem.
The same can be said for guns. Teach ‘em early, teach ‘em right. -Wb

My kids came home from school with some MADD literature and it made me mad. Pop open a brewski and the kids freak out because “Dad’s taking drugs.” How is it these can insert their propaganda into public schools? In this case they don’t even have their facts straight. One every 15 seconds? “But . . if we can save only one child from an alcohol related death, it’s worth it.” Maybe it’s worth a few class action lawsuits to save this country from overzealous, meddling bureaucrats.

When my daughter was in high school the school and LEO staged a hoax where the students were told one of the girls had been carrying on online with a man and she had been kidnapped by him and he was wanted for the rape and murder of several women. They did this in order to “teach” them about the dangers of online romance and giving out too much info online. I was furious- I don’t agree with doing this type of shock teaching. I think it is crazy. These poor kids are allowed to go through the whole range of emotion before being told it is a hoax.

Not in my classroom, and not in my school if I have a say in it!

... a uniformed police officer arrived in several classrooms to notify them that a fellow student had been killed in a drunken-driving accident...

This is wrong on too many levels for a single post. (1) It violates at least the spirit of the 9th commandment - "thou shalt not bear false witness" - and my other points show some of the reasons why this is one of God's basic commandments. (2) It teaches the kids not to trust adults in general. (3) It wastes academic time that should be spent on English, Math, History, and other educational topics. (4) It shows our kids through the actions of adults that "the end justifies the means" and that it's okay to lie to accomplish what you want done, which is one of the most harmful lessons that can be taught. (5) It harms the reputation of our police. Police should be respected for their integrity, which should be an essential component of everything they do in uniform. If the kids see this as standard operating procedure for their police, they could more easily be convinced that the police are lying in their testimony in court, making another OJ verdict more likely.

... if it makes even one student think twice before getting behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated, it is worth the price...

No. You can accomplish far more with the truth than with a clever fraud, and this person should know that if he wants access to my children or my students. My parents taught me the DUI lesson on the Saturday night before Prom. I had to spend four hours as a spectator in the emergency room on the night of another school's prom. Needless to say, I watched a lot of teenagers who tried to drive after drinking and wound up injured; the ER even had extra staff on "Prom Duty". I never forgot that lesson and never drove while impaired, and I also retained respect for the truth, my parents, most teachers, and the police.

This type of scare tactic is effective . . . for a few weeks at best. After that, kids go back to the way they were behaving before.

Ban alcohol outright and carloads of 16 year olds joyriding with their friends will still die in accidents.

Some kids get a fake ID so they can go dancing or to see touring bands.

The police are hard on clubs that cater to an 18+ crowd.

Strange that there is wiggle room in the law when it comes to the “age of consent” (if you are “near” the age of the other person it is ok to break the law even if one is above the age and one is below) but if you are “near” the drinking age you and the establishment will both be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

The actual deaths of 3,000 people on the morning of 9-11-2001 got the attention of Americans and made they rethink their priorities and understand in a moment of clarity what true evil was.

For a few weeks at least. After that, the peanut gallery media went back to the way they were behaving before.

This is emotional abuse, with disregard for boundaries. They could probably had a successful presentation if they let the students know ahead of time there would be a dramatization.

Fine line. Biblically, Rahab lied about the whereabouts of the Joshua and Caleb. In times of War we’ve lied, well at the very least “deceived” the enemy to our advantage. Those that hid Jews during the Holocaust lied. I don’t think there’s a clear cut line...and MADD members would tell you they are in a “war” of sorts.

No fine line.
Lying to your enemies has always been condoned.

If this makes one kid realize that the police and teachers are not on their side, it's worth it.
