Dying slowly in the United States is a very expensive proposition. This is especially true if you end up taking a massive pay cut to serve your country.

All we heard was that the service was today. Also heard yesterday that Rush was taking today off to attend. If there will be live TV it should be beginning with some sort of intro as it is after 10am EST.

Well, I’m thinking Tony has been in the business for a long time and am sure he had life/medical insurance long before this cancer came to light. Tony was a responsible, loving, caring husband and father...I’m sure he had something going for his family in the event something happened to him.

Exactly. I can’t imagine that either. No matter his job...he would have had that kind of coverage in place for his family. Most everyone does and for someone like Tony to be in the arena he was...well, it wouldn’t make sense to me if he didn’t. It just wouldn’t make sense.

with the deal that Rush just signed he could fund an account with no trouble at all.

I have the feeling Tony's kids will get a couple of years of college from Rush. He's a good man.

There’s a lot of judgement in your post that implies you know what Tony should or shouldn’t have done financially in his final years. He had some major setbacks, such as the fire that destroyed his home and all his possessions a few years ago. At that time his comments were not “poor me” he just stated how very glad he was that his beloved family was healthy, and they would go on. Cancer costs can skyrocket even with insurance when you are trying to fight it aggressively.

No one had demanded you make a contribution. You are more than welcome to decline. However, your snarky remarks are not necessary under the circumstances.

Yeah, I know! My wife of 38 years died from cancer about 4 years ago after an 11 month battle. And yes, it is very expensive even if one has insurance to cover some of the costs. I am not trying to be the least bit snarky - just pragmatic. We all have our lives to live. He had his, I have mine and my family to worry about just as I hope he worried about his. If he did not adequately take care of the responsibilities he felt, I'm sorry. If Rush is concerned about Tony's kids, great. I'm sure Rush will do whatever makes him feel better regarding this issue just a many Freepers will do.

Will I donate to Tony's kids future, no. I will, however add an extra bit to my own grandkids future in Tony's name. I really think Tony would be very happy with this attitude.

I’m guessing that his “priors”, i.e. previous colon cancer diagnostics...might have made him ineligible for life insurance...hence, his late sad try to make money for his family.

Exactly.

To the few classless nay-sayers on this thread, I say either contribute or don't but keep your trap shut or risk appearing to a be a complete heartless moron.

"BTW, I was wondering how old are Mr. Snow’s kids? They must be at least high school age. Thanks."

I think I read that they are 10, 11, and 14.

Tony would undoubtedly be pleased with your donation to your grandkids future in his name. It’s a fine gesture. Your attitude however is still snarky and it’s fine for you to have it. Sharing it on a thread of people who were very fond of Tony is not called for, and I doubt he would be “very happy” with your attitude. He was a fine person, who would never ask you or anyone else to help his children. If others choose to donate to a charity his friends have set up, it really is their business, as are all charitable contributions. There are lots of charities out there, and people pick the ones they want to support every day. I may agree with some more than others, but would not presume to tell anyone what I thought of the merits of one over the other. Personally I think that would be an attitude Tony would be happy with. I may be wrong, but guess we’ll never know.

I don’t know whether the dissenters on this thread intended to be heartless OR “classless morons”, but I believe they just raised an obvious question: One would think that someone hosting Fox News Sunday for several years, and who held many other very high ranking positions in the media, would be in fairly good shape financially. Yes, he did take a pay cut to work for the government, but that was for only 17 months out of a likely 30 year work history.

Many of you have mentioned circumstances of which I was not aware, such as the house fire, the insurability re: cancer, etc. Maybe there are issues, and thanks for bringing them to our attention. And of course people may want to donate regardless of need.

But I honestly don’t think the dissenters here had any malice when posing these questions.

well, part of the reason he left the WH was to earn some money for his fam before he died. And his kids are actually relatively young. I’m not sure they will need college money, but more like general expenses.

I don't find your comments "snarky".

Tony posted on FR before he took the job at the White House, asking for advice because he was well aware of the difference in pay and the financial sacrifices his family would have to make for him to take his "dream job".

Because he was diagnosed with cancer, I would guess Tony knew his health insurance wasn't carried over from one job to the next. He freely admitted he took out a loan to help pay the family bills until he finally had to leave the White House to make more money for his families future.

Unfortunately, he didn't have enough time to set them up. I feel bad for all of them. But I will not contribute for his children's education. He had hundreds of wealthy friends who cried great big tears AND have deep pockets. I have my own grandchildren to think of.

You are a total fool!

If you think for one moment that Rush didn’t give generously, you need to take a moment to reflect on the accomplishments you’ve made in YOUR life...You were lucky to be born at all!

If you know anything about his family history, Tony’s mother died from the very same aggressive form of colon cancer!

It’s hereditary...Those Snow childeren have those genes!
