National Review's Jeffrey Hart wrote, "[Schundler] seems to know how to implement Ronald Reagan's ideas better than Reagan did." The late William F. Buckley Jr. told readers, "Look for [Schundler] in 2008." While quick to deflect praise, Schundler admitted, "We were doing very innovative stuff."

According to him, the tax levy has gone up 50 percent in seven years, the murder rate has doubled, and job growth is stagnant (19,000 jobs were created during 1993-2003, but only 450 during 2003-2006).

How on earth can liberalism still exist? < shaking head>

I went to a small campaign talk he gave when he ran for governor back in 2000. I liked him so much and his family, too. In talking with some of his people, I heard that even many Republicans were not pulling for him because he would clean up Trenton and that meant Democrats and Republicans. Trenton is a mess.

That's easy.
The welfare state creates dependents and administrators. Then there are the people with enough wealth to afford to be liberals. Finally, there are the new people too incurious to learn the facts and too stupid not to know how ephemeral the nice cities are. It is true for New Jersey and New York.

Bret Schundler is great. Yet my Liberal cousin in Jersey City, who sends her kids to the charter schools he created, will still not vote for him. It’s preposterous!

If the Republican party in New Jersey wasn’t so full of corrupt RINOs he would have been our governor!

Bret Schundler is a Republican star.

It was his misfortune to be born in New Jersey.

If he was born in a Republican state, he might be running for the White House.

Brett’s a “take-no-prisoners” conservative. That’s why he’ll never get anywhere in this cesspool state.

Now, THAT is a person I could vote for and volunteer to help elect him. He’s everything I want in a CONSERVATIVE candidate.

That’s the TRUTH.

Instead we’re stuck with RHINO McPain.

A large population of voters will always vote to give themselves a pay raise.

Sadly, the old school Machine Dems are back in power. Mayor Jerry Healy, a man who was once busted naked and intoxicated outside his house in da Heights and who got into a fight with Bradley Beach cops about two years ago (again, while heavily intoxicated) is praised for bringing "development and prosperity", even though most of the contracts were put in place while Brett was Mayor.

Lets also not forget that JC did what so many other places have done when poor people were displaced by luxury developments: dump the poor on aging, blue collar communities via section 8 (see JC Heights, Bayonne and Kearny). This happened when Schundler was Mayor as well.

In the meantime, JC continues the schizophrenic identity that it has maintained over the last 25 years or so: luxury condo community on the one hand (with inhabitants moving in and out without every few years) and poor immigrant/underclass city (with the underclass displaced/dispersed everytime a new luxury development is put in place). Lots of zoning for housing, but not enough for retail or recreation (even the professionals in the high rises must go to Hoboken and Manhatten for diversions). Meanwhile, development rights were given away with long-term tax abatements, meaning that the city collects few taxes from the high rises, while supporting a bloated bureaucracy (JC being one of the last cities I know of with elevator operators in the neighborhood libraries).

Did she ever get Mayor Jerry to buy her a drink, only to have said boilermaker consumed by da Mare himself?

Jerry Healy is, sad to say, a walking ethno-political stereotype. Even Hague was smart enough to do his tippling after hours.

Bret is a great guy.

I will NEVER forgive the head of the Republican party in NJ for how they treated him when he ran for office.

Whenever they call for donatations. I tell them I give to individual candidates now, and than tell them why.

LOL!

I spent a lot of time in downtown chilltown while at St. Peter’s Prep in the early 80’s and got to see Cucci and McCann dragged off to the hoosegow!

I worked on both of his Jersey City campaigns, Bret was the best Mayor Jersey City ever had and the only 2-time Mayor that was never indited.

Depending on the economy Schundler might well be falling into a career ending trap if he wins.

Almost every major residential and commerical real estate project in JC has been put on hold until the financial markets shake out the dead weight.

The entire states of NJ and NY is barely creating new jobs, JC won’t be lassoing in transplant jobs from Manhattan this time, and the new Meadowlands business park will undercut the low end office jobs creation engine.

Bret Schundler would make a terrific POTUS some day.

I hope he leaves the very liberal New Jersey and runs for U.S. senator in another state.

Because the left learned from Karl Marx. Perception can become the reality. Advertise online Republicans, hire some campaign stars. Stop hiring 60 year old buddies whom have become disconnected to changing trends. Hire young and fresh, educate the young that there is no ‘magic money tree’ of free sex for all. Teach Judeo-Christian values and loudly proclaim them. Fear not the truth but very much fear the mob of 300 M Americans when and if they decide they have had enough when you side with libs and lie to them en masse. That funny Internet thing again. Gee, wonder why the left wants to tax it? Maybe to control it and censor? Stupid idea in any event, China and Russia couldn’t do this, what makes these lametards on the Hill think they can? They are simply outspending you on media and the propoganda runs thick komrad. Lenin and Moi are very pleased in hell...

Then he is needed all the more so. Can we stop this ‘pass the baton’ crap now? Leadership must be prepared to carry a cross and go all the way if necessary.

Does he have the most remote shot at reclaiming his office ? It’d be nice to see a grown-up back in charge of JC again.
