"...more stable or liquid vehicles"

Swiss Bank account. Euros or Swiss Francs. Just wire the money there into your Geneva account. And get what you need wired back to your local bank legitimately. In our currency at the international exchange rate that day.

Walk into your local bank with the check and give the lazy guy at the desk your Swiss account # you want to transfer that money to and into what currency. There is a xfer and a receipt document both banks have. Just tell the local bank you are transferring to has the cash on hand you need. Your local bank gets a printout of the x-action verified by the Swiss. into your account.

You can open a Swiss account online. They will want to know things about the bank(s) you will be x-fering from and numbers. Half of the Swiss acct # is blacked out.

If you are that worried, do this. It takes minutes. And you can have fun with money at a Federal bank. Tell them you want $100K of Iraqi Dinars:) Those are going to be worth more because they're economy is picking up fast. Their professionals are returning. Keep that bag in your closet for a year or two.

“Do you know where I can read more about Wachovia? After reading all the Wachovia guesses here I’m ready to do a one man run on them.”

Just do a google search on “wachovia scandal” and you’ll get plenty to read. While you’re at it, you can also go onto bankrate.com and look for a different bank that will pay you a higher interest rate on your savings anyway.

You might also want to think about joining a credit union.

You can have more than 100k in one bank and still be covered but you have to have it in separate accounts. Put one in your name, another joint, another with your spouse as beneficiary, another with your child as beneficiary.

To be super super safe, spread your money around.
